Watch: Michael C. Hall Comments On ‘Dexter’ Season 7

“I’m interested in exploring a Dexter who is even more ... paranoid"

Last month we learned that the upcoming 7th season of Dexter will debut on Showtime at the end of September and today we get to hear a bit about the upcoming season from none other than Dexter star Michael C. Hall himself. MCH will be featured in the May issue of Vanity Fair magazine, dubbed The TV Issue, and for the mag, he talks a bit about his character … and what’s in store for season 7. Click below to watch video of MCH talking Dexter and read some excerpts from his VF interview.

What would be the plot for season 7?
“I think it’s good that the writers have found a new way to really turn up the heat on the character and force him into situations that he’s going to have to use his wits to fight his way out of.” Hall added, “And the newest development is sort of unprecedented in its complexity; it’s a real mess.”

Will there be any change in Dexter’s character for season 7?
“I’m interested in exploring a Dexter who is even more, for necessary reasons, wary, even paranoid, managing relationships in a more meticulous way in terms of what he does or doesn’t say or what he does to move people in directions that are advantageous to him.”

You think Dexter’s been devious in the past?
“I think he’s going to have to be more consciously manipulative in a way. And those are all things that he’s been in varying degrees, but not to the degree that I think he’ll be required to be now.”

So, can the show writers possibly top John Lithgow’s(Trinity) infamous killer in the upcoming season?
“Other people who were adversaries for Dexter had their list of dark characteristics, but Trinity was the most prolific serial killer up to that point in the history of the world.” While he mentioned that that scenario cannot be done again, he joked, “It’d be interesting if we did some sort of face off in another realm of all the big bads over the course of the seasons. I don’t think that would ever happen, but if we did, I have a feeling that Trinity would come out on top.”

Michael C. Hall will feature in Vanity Fair magazine for the month of May, 2012.

This is all very exciting but … dang, we still have a long time to wait before we get to get mixed up with Dexter again. September is almost a lifetime away … far too far away for me to start obsessing about what will happen between him and sister Deb this coming season. Spoiler Alert for those of you who have yet to see the season finale from last season … the jig is up, she knows. It’s going to be very interesting to see where the writers take Dexter‘s story. I contend that Dexter employs some of the best writers on TV so I have full faith and confidence that they know what they are doing. Since we believe that there are only 2 seasons left of Dexter, I’m certain the writers have the end game all sorted out. I just can’t wait to see what they deliver. So exciting but … again … so far away. It’s gonna be a long Summer waiting for the return of Dexter.

I loved that video. He has such a cool sense of humor! I can’t wait for September too. The fact that he & Jennifer Carpenter have acted so well in this show makes me forget about all the stuff that went on behind the scenes. the whole cast is just superb & the writing is even better.

  2. He needs to keep that beard.

I’m kinda over this show, that incest storyline was just idiotic and made the most likeable character, completely unlikeable

Totally agree Debs new love interest was weird and not in a good way. I love the series but last season kinda sucked. Late said I’m looking forward to next season.

A agree – it just didn’t feel like Deb. Neither did Deb talking to a shrink actually,. I just felt like I’d been watching the series for six seasons and I feel like I know the characters really well. The falling in live with your brother thing is just not Deb. Ok, rant over :P
