Tony Danza To Play Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Dad In Unnamed Directorial Debut

A couple of weeks back to reported on Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s exciting directorial debut film which is to star Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore. Now they are adding one more to the cast with Tony Danza, star of Who’s The Boss, to play JGL’s father in the yet to be titled movie. The news come to us via Variety who reported that the two actors worked together back in 1994 in the Disney film Angels in the Outfield, and are not coming back together for JGL’s first film as triple threat – writer, director and actor. .

We still don’t know many details, and the movie doesn’t have a title, but we do know that JGL wrote the script, and will be directing what he has described as a “sexy comedy” in which he plays the role of a self-confessed “selfish dick.” Tony Danza will play Gordon-Levitt’s dad, Scarlett Johansson his girlfriend, and Julianne Moore as an unlikely mentor to the guy with many social and relationship issues.

Joseph has clearly taken on a big challenge directing his first film, based on something that he has written, and then he is starring in it as well. Impressively though, he is accumulating a pretty good cast. I think Tony Danza will play JGL’s dad perfectly, and I am keen to see how the chemistry works between him and Scarlett. It seems like Hollywood is keen to get behind JGL’s project, which is a sign of how well he is doing.

“This is the first time I finished a feature film I thought was good enough to make into a movie..I wrote myself a helluva role, one that people wouldn’t necessarily thought of me for.”

JGL was supposed to have a cameo role in Quentin Tarantino film, Django Unchained but he pulled out of that film to concentrate on his first movie as director. I’m pretty excited about this one because JGL is one seriously talented young man, and I’m curious to see how this movie pans out. I guess we will find out more info about the film, and get a name, soon. Are you excited about this movie?
