New Pics Of Anne Hathaway And Hugh Jackman On The Set Of ‘Les Misérables’

Almost Unrecognizable

We have previously seen pics of Hugh Jackman in character as Valjean on the set of Les Misérables. Today we have new photos of Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway from the set in London, which not only show a frail and gaunt looking Anne in character as Fantine, but also the first real image of the set. Anne is nearly unrecognizable due to her recently cropped haircut and thinner body than usual. We reported a couple of weeks back that Anne had been put on a strict diet to lose weight for the role of Fantine, a prostitute suffering from tuberculosis. These reports were never confirmed, but from these pictures at least, Anne is looking pretty gaunt and frail. Check out the latest pics from the set..

When the reports came out about Anne being put on a drastic diet to lose weight for the role, they were never confirmed. Some reports said that she was sticking to a 500 calorie a day regime, which is extremely drastic and some would say, dangerous. Her reps have said that, “the numbers are exaggerated in both pounds and calories,” so it has never fully been confirmed. However, I think she looks noticeably smaller in the pale purple dress she is wearing. Her short hair and pale makeup of course also adds to the ailing look.

Many people have expressed concern about whether Anne was right for the role. It remains to be seen whether she truly brings Fantine to life in the big screen adaptation. What we have seen though is her total dedication to the role. Not just chopping her hair off, but physically attempting a transformation into the frail and dying Fantine. Despite the controversial rumors, Anne is looking very Fantine-esque IMHO. What do you think though? Is she starting to bring the character to life, in images at least?

Didn’t they already make this into a movie? Is it necessary for another one?

    Wait, I don’t understand.
Fantine has long hair for most of the play; only later on does she cut it all off.

    WAAA stupid Hollywood changing things.

I think the hair makes anyone’s face look more pronounced and the costuming of a corset will make someone look slim. I don’t think Annie is doing anything dangerous and I hope she isn’t.

  4. This is the broadway musical brought to film and it looks to be magnificent. Go buy any of the global soundtracks that have been available for thirty years if you aren’t familiar with the score.
