Ryan Murphy Reveals ‘American Horror Story’ Season 2 Locale And Other Details

Intriguing Season 2

We are starting to get a much clearer picture of what American Horror Story’s second season will look like. A few weeks ago we heard which members of the season one cast will be returning, and today Ryan Murphy has revealed where, and when, the series will take place. We also know now what the overall style of season 2 is going to be, and what kind of role newbie Adam Levine is going to be playing. Some of the old cast might be returning, but we know that they will be playing the opposite of the characters they embodied in season 1. There will also be new cast members, a new location and new premise. Intrigued?

The first thing that they revealed yesterday during a panel promoting the series at the TV Academy in North Hollywood was the location.

“[Season 2] is set on the East Coast at an institution for the criminally insane that is run by Jessica,” Murphy said. In addition to the East Coast institution for the criminally insane, the second season will also find the cast in a new era, Murphy said. “It’s a completely different world and has nothing to do with Season 1; there’s not a mention of Season 1,” he noted. “The second season is set in a completely different time period.”

So, now we know that is set in a different era, in an East Coast institution for the criminally insane. There is also no mention of season one. Hmm… Ryan also unveiled some more details about the characters. One of the things I have been curious about is what role new cast member, Adam Levine, will play. Ryan gave us some more insight into this, and what we can expect from the season as a whole. I am even more fascinated now.

“He’s [Adam Levine] a sexy guy so he needs to play a sexy guy, but the guy that is different than who you think he would play,” he said. “I pitched him the part and he listened, slack jawed, and simply said, ‘I’m in.’ The second season is fun, sexy and baroque. It has a lot of meat to it; it’s a really gritty part. He’s with a girl and they play characters called The Lovers.”

So..now we know that is set in a different time period, in an East Coast institution for the criminally insane, Adam Levine plays a sexy guy that is completely unexpected. The season is also “baroque”. Hmm….

We found out a few weeks back that the season one cast members that are returning are Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe but, now Ryan has revealed there may be OTHER surprise appearances from season one cast members…

“The idea is to work with actors that you love and are excited by. The second season, everybody who was announced, there will be other people up on this stage who are not announced who will also be in it but are playing the polar opposite of what they were in the first season in every way,” he said.

So..now we know that is set in a different time period, in an East Coast institution for the criminally insane, Adam Levine plays a sexy guy that is completely unexpected, the season is also “baroque”, and there may be unannounced surprises from other cast members that play the opposite characters. This is so exciting!

What do you think of the new revealing details about season 2 of AHS? Are you intrigued?

Why the hell is Adam Levine in this? That really upsets me.

  2. Amarie

I cannot WAIT! Not too excited about Adam either but we’ll see. It’s a bold move of Ryan Murphy to start a completely new show, having no idea if it’ll rope in the same amount ofof audience. But I love the concept of having a completely new show. As long as it’s horror I’m in. I hope AHS is around for a long time!

  3. i dont know – the more i hear about this second season the less im excited for it.

  4. Me

So, to clarify, is it set in a different time period, in an East Coast setting for the criminally insane, in a baroque period, Adam Levine will play a sexy guy that’s completely unexpected, and there will be surprise cast members?

  5. Megan

i dont like bringing old cast members back if its suppose to be completely different

    • agreed. i think the idea of the same characters in a different setting works if you want to play it off as confusing/eerie/mysterious, etc. it’s going to be hard to completely push their past characters aside REGARDLESS of hair/makeup/setting.

Ok, so I love Adam….. but NO! Ryan Murphy turns every damn show he creates into “Let’s see how many Celebs I can have in my show”

@ ME: My guess is: it is set in a different time period, in an East Coast setting for the criminally insane, in a baroque period, Adam Levine will play a sexy guy that’s completely unexpected, and there will be surprise cast members. (Am I up to 400 words yet?)
