Garbage Officially Kicks Off Their New Tour In LA

The TV Guide

Last Friday I was very lucky to get to see Garbage play their secret rehearsal show at the Bootleg Theater but the band’s new tour kicked off officially last night at the El Rey Theater. Once again, Darion and I were front and center for Garbage‘s return to the stage. Earlier in the day, I did a bit of running and a bit of shopping. At the concert, we were met by my friend Irene and an amazing time was had by all.

Garbage were in fine form again last night. Since it was their first official show, gone were the false starts and cute mistakes that we got to see during Friday night’s rehearsal show. The band was, once again, tight and really on point. Shirley Manson sounded amazing … it was really fun to see her prowling the stage again after such a long time away. She didn’t talk to the crowd as much as she did Friday night but still, you could tell that every single person in that room was beyond thrilled to see Garbage live in concert again. Here is the setlist from last night’s show, as you can see, some of the songs were changed up from Friday night’s show:

Supervixen
Temptation Waits
Not My Idea
Metal Heart
Queer
Stupid Girl
Why Do You Love Me
#1 Crush
The Trick is to Keep Breathing
Vow
Blood for Poppies
Battle In Me
Man On a Wire
Milk
Bad Boyfriend
Only Happy When It Rains
Push It

Encore:
Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!)
The World Is Not Enough
I Think I’m Paranoid

Cherry Lips was a very nice surprise. I hope the band has even more songs rehearsed and ready to go for the rest of the tour. Darion and I had a blast:

And we will have a blast again tonight … cuz we’re going back to the El Rey for the band’s second LA show :)

Earlier in the day yesterday, I went out for a quick mile run in my Vibram FiveFingers toe shoes. It was a very interesting experience. The running felt weird … but fun. Remember when we were little and we would just unabashedly run around the neighborhood while barefoot? That’s what it felt like. I could tell that my shins and calves were getting a different workout … and I liked it. I’m not going to go crazy in these barefoot shoes … I don’t want to overdo it. My first run was a fun one, tho. After I finished up with my run, I went out to buy a tuxedo for Emma and Josh’s wedding. I can’t wait to show y’all how slick it is … once I get it tailored ;)

So yeah … another Garbage show tonight, but first … I need to get back to my half marathon training. I’m gonna hit the gym and make an attempt at running 5 miles. Let’s see how well I do :)

Awesome, thanks for the set list, I was curious which songs they may perform (although it could change from city to city). I’ve got my tickets for Austin on 4/21 and I can’t wait!

Trent, I forgot to ask in my previous comment – did they have any opening acts or was it just them?

    • @Jenn — There is an opening act, a solo artist named Laura Escude who, IMHO, isn’t very good.

Thanks for the info. I’m glad to hear it’s only 1 act, some concerts you go to lately have 2 or 3 which gets really long if it’s a standing room only concert (which the Austin show will be).

    • @Jenn — Garbage will take the stage exactly one hour after the opener does. For example, here in LA, Laura goes on at 8 and Garbage goes on promptly at 9. ENJOY!!

  3. Trent – i saw the tweet last night about something big happening on Pink – feel like dropping some hints? ;)

Cherry Lips is one of my favorite songs from them!!! Would love to hear it live! Gosh I hope they tour internationally!!!!
