This is one of those highly coveted roles in Hollywood – to play the iconic, Grace Kelly, has to be one of every Hollywood actress’s dream. Today we have learned that Nicole Kidman is in negotiations to play Grace in Olivier Dahan’s new movie, Grace of Monaco. Reports are saying that no deal has been closed yet, but that Nic is the lead runner and in advanced talks to play the princess of Monaco.
You can see in these pics that there is definitely a physical resemblance between a young Grace Kelly and Nicole Kidman, something about the way they hold themselves too. I can totally see her playing Grace…
Set between December 1961 and November 1962, [the] story finds Kelly as a former Oscar winner and mother of two who had already spent six years as the monarch of a European nation. The retired starlet was called upon to save Monaco from an escalating situation regarding its standing as a tax haven, with French leader Charles de Gaulle giving her husband, Monaco’s Prince Rainier III, six months to reform its tax laws.
The director of Grace of Monaco, Olivier Dahan, did the Edith Piaf biopic, La Vie en rose, so that is what I am imagining this to be somewhat like. I know that Nic Kidman is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I do think that this would be good casting if she gets the role, as she is perfect to play the poised, almost aloof, female character. She has the elegance and stature I think required for a role like Grace Kelly, but I actually also think Cate Blanchett would do a good job in a role like this too.
Who do you think would be the best Grace Kelly?
