The news going around today is that Ashton Kutcher is close to signing on to play the late Steve Jobs in a biopic called Jobs about the Apple innovator. A film about Steve Jobs emerged pretty much straight after his passing. Reportedly, Sony began developing such a film merely days after Steve Jobs’ death last October. The film will be based on the best-selling biography of Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson, and Ashton surfaced today as the guy in the lead to play the world’s most respected and powerful entrepreneurs in the business and technological world.
The film is said to be chronicling Steve Jobs‘ life from his “wayward hippie” ways as a young man, to how he ended up co-founding Apple, becoming one of the world’s most powerful men. Reports are saying that Ashton has yet to sign the deal, but is in serious negotiations to play Steve in this biopic.
OK, so there is definitely an uncanny physical resemblance between Ashton Kutcher and young, Steve Jobs, but sadly, aside from appearances, I’m not sure this is a good casting choice. It would certainly be a big breakthrough role for Ashton to play the world’s highly regarded tech father. Steve Jobs’ biography has become a best-seller, and no doubt this biopic will be equally popular. I guess I’m just not convinced that Ashton is a good fit to portray Jobs. I’m interested to know what they plan to do with the older Steve Jobs, he certainly looks nothing like boyish Ashton. I expect also there will be scenes from more recent times when sadly Steve was very unwell. I’m not sure Ashton could handle those scenes. Hmm…I am super excited about this new biopic though, and really hope that it is done well. What do you think of this casting news?
