First Look: Russell Crowe As Inspector Jarvert In ‘Les Misérables’

A couple of weeks ago we got our first look at Hugh Jackman in character as Jean Valjean on the set of upcoming new film version of Les Misérables. Today we get our first look at actor Russell Crowe in character as Valjean’s nemesis Inspector Javert. Crowe’s costume is very period … which means he looks a bit like Cap’n Crunch. Check out the new incarnation of Inspector Javert below.

He’s not exactly known for playing jovial, comedy characters who bring a smile to his and his audience’s faces. And this new role is no exception for Russell Crowe who looked rather grim-faced as he got into character on the set of his new film. The actor was seen for the first time on set of the film adaptation of Les Miserables as the formidable Inspector Jarvert. Crowe, who had the perfect expression for the cruel policeman, who is on a mission to imprison convict Jean Valjean, played by Hugh Jackman. And he looked rather like Napolean up there on his horse with his bicorne hat and official uniform. The film is being shot in Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire and there was a full set on for Crowe’s scenes as he was surrounded by camera and sound crew and extras who are his officers and were also on horses.

LOL! See, this is why I’m not a big fan of period piece films. I don’t think I can take Russell Crowe seriously while he wears this outfit. Those of you familiar with the story of Les Mis know that Javert is a pretty miserable and hateful character … perfect casting for Russell Crowe, I think. Something tells me that he will bring the Javert character to life perfectly. Do you agree?
