We have been seeing lots of Chris Klein recently with the premiere of American Reunion happening last week. The lighthearted comedy is in stark contrast with Chris’ own inner demons he has struggled with over the past few years. This week he opened up in an interview with PEOPLE magazine about his battle with alcoholism. After two DUI arrests, a jail sentence and a stint in rehab, Chris said that he knew he had to turn his life around. It has now been 19 months that he has been sober, and Chris has opened up about his struggles for the first time.
In most of the pics we see of Chris he is laughing. He is one seriously funny comedic actor, but sadly, Chris hasn’t just had laughs the last few years. At just 33 years old, Chris has been through some very dark and scary times. He said in the candid interview, “I would have died, and I think about that every single day… It got to the point where I was a fragile shadow of the young man that came into this business…Today, I’m the luckiest guy alive.”
Chris’ stint in rehab back in June 2010 at Cirque Lodge in Orem, Utah, was where Lindsay Lohan checked in for her rehabilitation. It is also where Demi Moore Many people doubted whether Chris would be able to clean up his act, but now we can see what appears to be a new man.
I love Chris in his American Pie movies and can’t wait to see him in the latest sequel, American Reunion. I am now even more impressed by him, not only for his 19 months of sobriety, but for opening up so candidly about his personal struggles. I know that there will be many people out there inspired by his courage, myself included. He turned his life around and now recognizes how lucky and blessed he is. What an inspiration. Lets hope that this is a new leaf that has been permanently turned over.
