Lourdes Maria Leon, the eldest daughter of Madonna, was very unfortunately spotted outside her school in NYC smoking with some friends in between classes. As you can see in the photos below, Lola got a light from a very handsome young man who, I dare say, she was trying to impress with her cigarette. As you may know, Lola‘s mother Madonna has been photographed smoking cigarettes over the many years of her career … most recently in her just released music video Girl Gone Wild. HMMMM. It would seem that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

We’re in two minds about what Madonna’s course of action is going to be when she finds out her precious first born is SMOKING CIGARETTES. On the one hand, Lourdes is, and always will be Madge’s baby girl – even when she’s 43 (our mum tells us this, so it’s true). And therefore, she is certain to be upset that her daughter is puffing away on something medically proven to cause cancer and kill – not to mention the wrinkles they cause – and we all know Madonna just doesn’t do wrinkles. But on the other hand, she doesn’t really have a leg to stand on because she’s not been shy of been seen toking on fags herself and could even be accused of glamourising smoking in various music videos and posters over the 78 years she been the Queen of Pop. Even in her latest video, which is conveniently called Girl Gone Wild, she’s done up like a film star with smoke curling out of her mouth in a suggestive manner… if that’s possible. So if Madonna is waiting at the front door for 15 year old Lourdes to get home, give her a good rollicking and ground her – Lourdes kind of has quite the comeback, she might even like to quote some of the lyrics from her mum’s latest record. “Girls they just wanna have some fun, get fired up like a smoking gun. / I know I shouldn’t act this way, I know that girls don’t misbehave, but I’m bad girl anyway.” But then if Madonna’s anything like most mums in the world (ours included), she will retort with: “Do as I say, not as I do.” Sucks being a kid sometimes

Ah … the eternal problem for parents … Do as I say, not as I do. IMHO, this behavior is prolly very less about acting out and more about fitting in. Lourdes, as any teen would, is trying to find herself. You will note that she is also rocking a nose ring in these photos … another sign of teen independence (and sometimes rebellion). I think it’s pretty safe to say that a majority of us engaged in this kind of behavior when we were younger. We all tried smoking and I know I went thru my body piercing phase. I know some folks may say, Well Madonna can’t really be surprised that her daughter is smoking because she is an infamous smoker. But, really, the same could be said about ANY parent/child relationship. It’s unfortunate that Lola has taken up smoking and it is my hope that that his is just an experimental phase. It would be naive to think that teens these days do not experiment with cigarettes (and worse) but hopefully they will realize the dangers associated with this behavior are not worth the risk. But, I suppose, that is a lesson teens like Lourdes can only learn from her parents.

Wow, this is sad but like you said we’ve all went through our experiment phase. Maybe this is hers, damn I hope Jayden and Sean Preston don’t get that habit from Brit 0.0
It is unfortunate she has taken up smoking, like you I believe it is more to fit in than anything else. Hopefully she will soon realize that smoking does not make one cool. Hoping she realizes it before it’s too late and she’s addicted.
I never tried smoking-mainly because members of my whole family smoked and I hated the smell of it and just had no desire to try myself. My “friends” tried to make me and they were no longer my friends after.
As for the piercings, eh- those are easy to remove and be done with if one loses interest in what they have. I don’t see piercings as a big deal, since they’re not permanent.
I’m frankly surprised by this revelation. I don’t expect it will last long.
If I ever caught my son smoking he’d be locked in his room for weeks! I don’t tolerate that kind of crap..Once he turns 18 (in less than 3 years! Eeeep!), he can make that decision for himself..But I hope I’ve influenced him enough so that he never takes it up..She just seems so young to be smoking anyways..So gross..Hopefully mom will lay down the law and her lungs can stay nice and healthy!
Cigarette age in NY is 19 that’s a shame. I wish i hadn’t started smoking! I quit cold turkey in December after 10+ years and have had absolutely no problems staying away, only one craving after hearing all my future in laws ridiculous demands about our wedding next month :)
Goof for you! I’m a 10 year smoker myself and I wish I’d never started. I doubt you’ll ever hear a smoker say they don’t have regrets about starting. I’m still trying to quit. I wish kids like Lourdes new how difficult it is to quit. I think they think it’s easy when it is really really not. :(
She goes to a performing arts school so *of course* she is smoking! Unfortunately most young people in the arts become smokers because everyone around them is doing it.
I never tried smoking cigarettes (or anything else for that matter)… and i think it was because of my parents. They didn’t, so i was never around it growing up. The opportunity has presented itself to me plenty of times, but i always turned it down. Didn’t seem to affect any of my friendships. #shrugs
I grew up with a father who smoked constantly, so I never tried it and never had any interest. It ended up killing my father at a relatively young age. I hope Lourdes comes to her senses and stops! She’s only 15 and if she keeps it up she will look like a hag by the time she hits 50!
don’t judge people who smoke cigarettes. there are many reasons why people start smoking and it is an addiction and hard to quit.. hopefully someday she can quit but that is her problem.. not ours.
@Lucas — “there are many reasons why people start smoking” Like what?
There are no good reasons to start smoking. When you are young it’s all about “looking cool” or rebelling, peer pressure. I wouldn’t even call those reasons. My issue is not with shaking your head at young people who start, but with people who don’t understand how difficult it can be for some smokers to quit. I don’t think kids understand that, nor do they feel that all the statistics apply to them. Lourdes and many young smokers are at that age where she feels invincible and oh so much smarter than older folks who smoke. Unfortunately before they know it, they’re 30 and want to go back in time to punch themselves in the face as they’re lighting up for he first time…
in my experience most smokers start young because they want to look cool, peer pressure, don’t know any better, etc.. by the time you wish you didn’t smoke its too late and its hard to quit. instead of judging smokers we need to help them quit! I recommend reading “The easy way to stop smoking” by Allen Carr for anyone who wants to quit. it helped me and a lot of people i know to quit!!
I didn’t start smoking for any of the reasons listed here. I’ve also never been one to sumbit to peer pressure, or to do things to fit in.
I started in the summer- alone in my bedroom. None of my other friends smoked and it was totally NOT about being “cool”. If anything, I think it was because my parents moved to a bigger house so I was farther away from getting their 2nd hand smoke and was starting to crave my “contact buzz” of nicotine.
Madonna only smokes as part of her “Art”….. She doesn’t actuallyl smoke like an addict…. This is a woman who only eats organic and refuses to age
Exactly what I was thinking. She’s a health and fitness freak and people are taking for granted she’s a chain smoker. As long as I can remember the only time I’ve seen her smoking was in the GGW video.
She does smoke occasionally – but not in a Courtney Love kind of way.
USA, the only place in the world where smoking cigarettes seems more scandalous than doing hardcore drugs :P … I can’t believe a 15 year old smoking a cigarette is news… on top of that, considering she’s Madonna’s daughter, I’m surprised she didn’t start sooner!
agreed.
Smoking is for the weak. I cant stand it being blown in my face or around me by inconsiderate people who think the world owes them because they don’t have the mindset to quit something that is gonna kill them. There is no good reason to start (peer pressure PLEASE) that is just an excuse. I could go on and on about smokers but suffice to say I will never respect anyone who smokes – period.
On a positive note – MDNA is amazing – I’m Addicated and Gang Bang are awesome songs.
You’re obviously not a smoker, which somehow makes you think you have the right to call the smokers “weak”.
If you knew anything about it, you’d know that cigarettes can be harder to kick than crack or heroin. There are lots of addicts who can quit those things but still not cigs.
It can be VERY, VERY difficult to quit cigarettes. Please don’t act like you’re above others just because they smoke. It’s just as disgusting as you think smoking is.
“I will never respect anyone who smokes – period. On a positive note – MDNA is amazing”… *rolls eyes*… you do know that Madonna smokes, right?
I think this is a bit of a double standard. Francis Bean gets photographed smoking and people freak out but Madonna’s kid gets caught smoking and she’s just ‘experimenting’.
young people like that that start smoking tend to be life long smokers.
