Angelina Jolie Finally Acknowledges ‘The Right Leg’ Oscars Saga

The biggest story to have to come out of the 2012 Annual Academy Awards earlier this year was the controversy over Angelina Jolie’s right leg. The awards show was criticized for being boring and after the statues were handed out the lingering memory of the night still is Angie’s leg. The red carpet fashion proved fascinating, as usual, but far and above all the high-end couture the standout moment for many was that leg. Ange’s leg even got it’s own Twitter handle and was gagged, Photoshopped and spoofed for weeks. Today we have finally heard how Angelina feels about the whole fiasco.

I’m sure you don’t need a reminder, but Ange created a name for herself post Oscars this year by wearing a black Versace velvet dress with an extremely high slit on her right thigh. The dress itself wasn’t that outrageous, but the talking point was how she proceeded to stick her right leg out of the slit, in an awkward and strange stance. When she stood on stage to present the award for best screenwriter she did it again – the strange right leg protruding squat. The mockery began straight away, when the winner of Best Adapted Screenplay Descendants writer Jim Rash mimicked her pose.

Weeks later, after the right leg created a name for itself, Angelina has finally spoken about the saga. She said..

“I honestly didn’t pay attention to it. You know what I mean? …I don’t watch those TV shows and if I go online and see something about myself, I don’t click on it. The people I surround myself with don’t really talk about that kind of stuff…I heard something, but I didn’t pay any attention. It’s as simple as being a woman picking a dress you like and having a night, and not really thinking about anything else.”

What I loved about this statement is that she said she “heard something”. LOL! How could she not have heard something, the story went viral. While I thought the whole thing was hilarious, and I’m glad Ange did it because it actually created some humor and enjoyment to the whole Oscar humdrum, I do actually sorta respect her for saying that she didn’t pay any attention to it. She acted oddly, and that right leg was totally bizarre and unattractive, but what is she going to do about it now…

I still don’t see what the big deal is about her leg showing. I see legs on the red carpet all of the time!

    • DJ

It wasn’t about the red carpet moment. That’s when you’re supposed to pose like that for pictures and what not.

The hoopla was about when she did it on stage during the awards when presenting the Best Screenleg- I mean Screenplay awards. She strutted out, stood at the mic and stuck the leg out like she was posing for the cover of Vogue. It was so weird, but totally amazing and it was one of the highlights of the show! And God knows if I had legs like that, I’d show em off too!!! :-)

She made Lea Michele look normal, put it that way. And if you question THAT, there is something wrong with your eyes.

The best phrase would be “Awkwardly try-hard”

She tries to shrub it off as being cool but she did look utterly ridiculous in that pose.

  • Nikki

she always does that pose, look at other red carpet pictures of her, this time it was more noticeable because the dress was stiff & didn’t fall or move with her.

  • Chivonne

It’s so sad that the Oscars were so dull that a freakin’ leg is the major attention grabber.

I think it looks awkward only because we can’t see the other leg and understand the pose visually.

  • Lori

She is old news…anorexic and hit by the proverbial looks wall…husband stealing B who can’t bother to make her kids legitimate by getting married.

    • Isabelle

You don’t need to get married to have your kids “legitimated”. They all wear Pitt’s name along with hers. You’re basically spitting in the face of all the couples who have children but don’t get married. Grow up.

    • Velaine

This “husband stealing” label is ridiculous, not just with Angelina, with all relationships. Certainly, it’s not attractive for a woman to pursue married men, but a slut can’t make a man do anything he doesn’t want to. It’s not other people’s responsibility to respect your vows. And yes, I’ve been cheated on by a man who is still with that woman (seven years later, but still not married). Maybe they were meant to be. She seems to tolerates the nonsense I never could. And I’ve married someone who suits me much better.

  • jen

@lori maybe that was a little harsh????

  • Chantel S

i think she put her leg out so ppl wouldnt pay attention soo much to how skinny she was plus that dress looked pretty thick and very much like a drape… its like she was hiding herself and then not at the same time to save face ? who knows all i know is it was pretty funny some of her poses ,, but hey when im drunk i prolly pose pretty funny too !!!

  • Lori

You are correct I am….I guess I have morals.

    • Isabelle

      I’m sorry…I have a child and I’m not married. Does that mean I don’t have morals ?

    • Sanchez

Hey I think I’m the worst of the worst. I’m married (and have been for 4 years!) and DON’T have a kid. Heaven forbid!

    • Isabelle

Girl, I think we’re gonna rot in hell. (and yes this is a joke)

    • Ariel

      “i have morals” hahahaha

    • PixiesBassline

To all you unwed mothers: you better run out and get your relationship legalized on paper, so your kid(s) won’t be illegitimized! Cuz you know if it’s not on paper with the state, you’re a piece of garbage, right? ;)

  • Charlotte

She looked redonkulous. Annnnnd… moving right along…

    • PixiesBassline

She did. It was almost embarrassing to look at her.

    @ Trent
“Today we have finally heard how Angelina feels about the whole fiasco.”

    noun, plural -cos, -coes.
    a complete and ignominious failure.

How is this a Failure? Choose your words correctly.

    • @gayana — First, Melissa is the author of this humorous follow-up post. Second, Pink reader Mandy is right … why so serious?

  • mandy

people use the word ‘fiasco’ colloquially to describe events where it’s generally a total clusterfuck, or something that’s blown out of proportion. it doesn’t have to be a failure. put that dictionary away girlfriend!
