Watch: ‘Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome’ Releases A First Preview Trailer [UPDATE]

Great news, Battlestar Galactica fans … I’ve got an exciting (long overdue) update about the new prequel series Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome. As you may recall, we first learned back in October of 2010 that plans are in the works for a new Battlestar TV series that would focus on the young William Adama and the Cylon War. In January of 2011, we learned that Skins star Luke Pasqualino was cast in the role of Adama. Today, after much delay, we get to see a newly leaked preview trailer for Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome … which you can check out in full below.

As you may recall, SyFy tried to make an even earlier prequel series called Caprica work … but sadly, it didn’t turn out so well. I have high hopes for this Blood & Chrome series. BUT, I’m afraid, things don’t look so well for the show right now. I’m hearing that Blood & Chrome may be downgraded to a webseries … which means no TV and, therefore, no audience. This trailer looks fantastic. I would LOVE to see Blood & Chrome on TV week after week. I really loved Battlestar Galactica … this new series looks like it could be just as successful. Let’s just hope for the best, I guess. I like what I see already … I’d love to see more.

UPDATE: Booooo! Deadline is reporting that SyFy has decided NOT to air Blood & Chrome as a TV series:

After lengthy deliberations, Syfy has decided not to go forward with the project, about the young years of William Adama, as a regular TV series. Blood & Chrome, initially envisioned as a Web series, was greenlighted as a two-hour TV pilot in October 2010. Because of intensive post-production, including special effects, the pilot was not delivered to Syfy until last November. As of January, Syfy president original programming Mark Stern was quoted as saying that he the network brass were “trying to figure out the economics right now” and that he hoped those would be figured out. Now, the network has passed on the project as a regular series but is looking to do it as a digital one, while airing the already produced pilot on the network as a movie. “Though the vision for “Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome” has evolved over the course of the past year, our enthusiasm for this ambitious project has not waned,” Stern said in a statement today. “We are actively pursuing it as was originally intended: a groundbreaking digital series that will launch to audiences beyond the scope of a television screen. The 90-minute pilot movie will air on Syfy in its entirety at a future date.” Despite the lengthy production and decision-making, the buzz about Blood & Chrome never died among Battlestar fans. It went into overdrive over the past couple of days following a WonderCom panel over the weekend with Kevin Grazier, the scientific adviser for Syfy’s Battlestar Galactica series, where he screened what was described as a trailer for Blood & Chrome. That trailer, to Trent Reznor and Karen O’s cover of “Immigrant Song” for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, found its way to the Web on Monday night and has gone viral — garnering some 100,000 views in 24 hours. The problem was that this was not an official trailer but a demo reel not intended for public consumption and thus not put through the process of clearing music and other rights. It is still unclear how the video made its way to WonderCon, but NBCUniversal today moved swiftly to take down the multiple copies that had popped up on YouTube. Universal Cable Prods, which produces Blood & Chrome, may still shop the project to other networks.

What a disappointment. This trailer looks fantastic … light years better than Caprica ever did. Bummer.

My Friday nights have not been the same since BSG went off the air. :( This does look miles better than Caprica.

WHAT!? Why would they do that!
With all these BSG fans you would think they would allow it to air..
That’s SyFy’s the way..why is SyFy spelled that way? I don’t understand why they changed it!

Ugh, I refuse to even write the name of this network. They are more interested in wrestling than great science fiction shows.

I couldn’t see the clip that you posted but just found it somewhere else. The network that must not be named seriously sucks! This looks amazing. I loved Luke on Skins and was really excited when I heard he was going to play Adama. I have always though a BSG prequel was a good idea. There is a great story to be told there. Caprica just wasn’t it.

They are not doing it because they don’t think fans will watch it on commercial TV, but rather watch pirated copies of it. I think they are right too.
