According to new reports out today, Jersey Shore star Mike The Situation Sorrentino has quietly checked himself in to rehab. According to sources close to The Situation, his hard partying (the kind that made him a reality TV star) got really severe during the filming of the last season of MTV‘s Jersey Shore and he reportedly “hit rock bottom” … hence the need to seek addiction treatment in rehab. A rep for Sorrentino is denying the rehab reports, insisted that Mike is just on “vacation”. HMMM.
“The Situation” is in rehab for substance abuse … TMZ has learned. Sources tell TMZ the “Jersey Shore” star — aka Mike Sorrentino — has checked into an inpatient treatment program. Like most of the ‘JS’ crew … Sorrentino’s been on a non-stop party train since the show debuted on MTV 2 years ago — drinking and making paid appearances at nightclubs all over the world. Sitch makes anywhere from 15K … up to a whopping 50k per nightclub appearance. MTV just announced “Jersey Shore” is returning for a 6th season … which is scheduled to start shooting this summer … Multiple sources close to The Situation tell TMZ … the MTV star’s hard-partying ways were worse than ever during the taping of the most recent season of “Jersey Shore” … and the signs were obvious during the episode when the gang went camping … Now, sources close to Sitch tell us … the reality star had been showing signs of substance abuse for a while … but “he was getting worse” as the season went on. We’re told … several people noticed he was “acting paranoid” on the set … and the unusual behavior was evident in certain Season 5 episodes that recently aired on MTV. During the ep when the gang goes camping, Sitch can be seen acting jittery, sweating profusely and just plain acting bizarre. Sources say … cast and crew members on “Jersey Shore” are happy he’s getting help … and hope that he will be healthy enough to join them for the recently announced Season 6.
And here is the official response from Sorrentino‘s rep in response to this report:
Sorrentino’s rep denies any claims that Sitch entered rehab for substance abuse, “He has spent the past several weeks at an undisclosed location for much needed rest and recuperation after his extensive production and appearance schedule.”
Mike, himself, posted a tweet on his official Twitter profile, saying: “Don’t believe everything you read or hear.”
Personally, I’m not buying the denials … despite the refutation by Sorrention‘s rep, I think TMZ has shown that they have a pretty good track record for this kind of reporting. I don’t blame The Sitch for trying to downplay this rehab thing, after all, he prolly fears MTV might axe him from the upcoming 6th season if they believe he has a substance abuse problem. It would be a terrible shame if Mike does have a problem and he attempts to sweep it under the rug just so he can stay on Jersey Shore. He doesn’t strike me as the brightest bulb in the socket so … I can see how he might put fame and fortune ahead of his health. Whatever the case may be, I hope Mike The Situation Sorrentino doesn’t end up ruining his life just for a little reality TV fame.
The Situation is undergoing rehab at the famous Cirque Lodge in Utah for prescription meds, TMZ has learned. Several sources have told us The Situation is at Cirque for other substance abuse problems … but as of now, we can only confirm prescription meds. Our sources say The Situation is walking around Cirque, telling people he’s gained weight — and has made specific diet requests from the chef at the facility, hoping to get back into shape for the 6th Season of “Jersey Shore.” And just to make sure he gets his way — one source tells us, Sitch is making damn sure everyone remembers how wealthy and famous he is. We’re told this is not the first time The Situation has undergone treatment for substance abuse.
HMMM … I wonder if The Sitch‘s rep is willing to go on the record to deny this new information. It sounds to me like the guy needs help … my suggestion for him would be, if you want to clean up your life … say goodbye to parting on Jersey Shore and do something else with your talents. Maybe work at a gym, tanning salon or laundromat?
