It is only 5 days to go until we FINALLY get Mad Men back in our lives. Season 5 premieres on Sunday night, and over the last few weeks we have been getting more and more sneak peaks about the new season. First we had the promo video, the mannequin posters, those controversial posters, and now Jon Hamm himself has revealed some more info to whet our appetite. Sunday cannot come soon enough.
At a cocktail reception for the Television Critics Association, Jon Hamm (aka Don Draper) was asked a whole lot of questions about the show’s 5th season. He didn’t reveal too much and managed to keep some of it a secret still (well, a lot still) but he did give away a little bit. Read some of his answers…
Q: What can you tell us about the two hour premiere?
JH: It all takes place on ice. We do ice skating. There are several musical numbers. There’s a Santa suit. The Muppets make an appearance which is really weird. We were supposed to come out right when that movie came out but we missed it. So it’s going to seem weird.
Q: Is there a lighter tone to this season of Mad Men or is it even more serious?
JH: I would suggest that it probably couldn’t get much darker than season four and I’ll leave it at that.
Q: Have you already gotten married when season five starts? How does it change your relationship with Peggy?
JH: We’ll see. It’s certainly something that is explored in season five and we’ll see. Nothing has happened yet so we don’t really know. I’ll be as honest as I can and kind of restate what I just said, but Peggy and Don are very close and Peggy has opinions, and Don has opinions. I think we saw both of those being expressed.
Q: Will you get married this season?
JH: Well, I’m engaged at the end of this last one. You can wave it as much as you want. I’m not going to answer the question.
Very sneaky! So we don’t know the answer to that nail biting question and like his character, Jon is remaining elusive and vague, but I guess we only have to wait a few more days until we will start to know all the answers. We do know now that season 5 may POSSIBLY be a little lighter than season 4, and that the premiere is going to POSSIBLY have a musical component to it. It also features The Muppets, but because of the delayed timing hasn’t coincided with that film’s release. OOOh I’m so excited for this show to be back on our screens. This two hour premiere on Sunday has created so much anticipation, I think I might explode while watching it. Are you excited for season 5’s return? What do y’all think will come with this new season?0
