Longtime Pink fans will recall that back in 2010 there was news of a revamp of The Munsters sitcom. Guillermo Del Toro signed on to work with Universal Studios to bring back a modern, revamped version of the hit 60?s TV series. This wasn’t the first time The Munsters had gotten the reboot treatment since the original show left the airwaves in 1966 after 2 years and 70 episodes. The Munsters Today debuted in 1988 and ran until 1991. I have learned today that there is another reboot in the works. Eddie Izzard is in final negotiations to star in and produce a revamped Munsters series called Mockingbird Lane. The original Victorian home of the Munster family was at 1313 Mockingbird Lane in the fictional Mockingbird Heights…hence the name for the new series, which is said to be a more fuller revamp than previous ones.
The new show is still determining its cast, and Eddie is the first actor being considered for a role. If he gets the part, Eddie will play the role of Grandpa, the Munster family patriarch, who was originally played by the iconic Al Lewis. When I first saw this pic of Eddie, I actually had a little giggle – the resemblance between them is uncanny. What do you think?
For many years I loved watching reruns of the original Munsters and I am a big fan of Al Lewis. While I am usually nervous about revamps of classic series, especially shows I love dearly and remind me of my own childhood, I am really hoping and praying that this one takes off. I think Eddie will do a great job as Grandpa Munster. He has the perfect face for it and the personality to match. He was actually offered the role in January, but NBC rolled the pilot out to June this year so they have spent the past 6 months developing the show. I’m super excited to see what they have in store for this revamp and to also see who else they have their eyes on for the rest of the cast. Who do you think would make a good Herman Munster, and what do you think of Eddie Izzard as Grandpa?
