Earlier this month we got our first listen of the new Marilyn Manson song No Reflection from his upcoming new album Born Villain. Today we learn a bit more about the forthcoming MM album … actually of a particular song that is going to be included. Actor Johnny Depp, who is BFF with Marilyn Manson apparently, has decided to make a guest appearance on Born Villain by collaborating with Manson on a cover of the Carly Simon song You’re So Vain. Yes, really. Read on for all the known deets.
Marilyn Manson’s upcoming Born Villain LP will feature a guest appearance by his friend Johnny Depp, who collaborates with the macabre rocker on a cover of Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain.” The album, due May 1st, will be released on Manson’s own Hell, Etc. label in conjunction with Cooking Vinyl/Downtown Records. Manson and Depp have been mutual admirers for years, with the performer joining the actor as his “date” at the Disneyland premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Manson’s headlining appearance at the Golden Gods Awards on April 11th in Los Angeles, his first U.S. gig in three years, will be followed by a tour in support of the new album.
You know, I thought I had remembered vaguely that Depp and Manson are BFFs but it’s not really something that you think about all the time. To be honest, I knew they were buds but I didn’t know they were this close. Of all the covers that these two unlikely collaborators could do, they go and choose You’re So Vain. I mean … I guess if you’ve got an odd pairing, you might as well bust out an odd cover. This new MM album is sounding pretty interesting … ain’t it?
