Watch: ‘On The Road’ Releases Its First Movie Trailer

The 'Beat' Goes On

Last week we got our first look at the first promo poster for the upcoming big screen adaptation of Jack Kerouac‘s classic Beat generation novel On the Road … and today we get our first look at the film’s first movie trailer. From the first time I heard this movie was being made, I became extremely worried that the source material would not be done justice (especially when I learned that Twilight‘s Kristen Stewart got a starring role in the film). But, thankfully, this first trailer has really put my mind at ease. Check out the trailer below and see what YOU think.

Yes, I am very impressed by what I see in this trailer. This first look at the film hits all the right emotional spots for me … it deffo gives a feeling that the film will be able to adequately bring Kerouac‘s genius novel to life. As I’ve said before, I’ve read On the Road many times and consider it one of my all-time favorite books. I really hope this film can come close to living up to the brillance of the book. While no movie can ever do any book justice, some films come close to getting it right. I hope and pray this On the Road film is one of those successful films … Kristen Stewart, notwithstanding.

So … what do y’all think?

Im a huge fan of the book and re-read it last year. I couldn’t imagine how they could translate the story to film, it’s so verbose and emotional. So far the trailer looks amazing and I have high high hopes for the film. On another note, I love Kstew as Marylou. Supposedly the role of Marylou isnt a focus in the screen adaptation, and she was cast prior to twilight, so I’ll have to wait and see. But I read that all the actors were very into character study. Amy Adams was almost unrecognizable in the trailer. I have big expectations for she and Kirsten Dunst. Pretty much I can’t wait to see this film!!

    • @Lauren — Have you read the “Original Scroll” version of Kerouac’s ‘On the Road’? If not, I HIGHLY recommend it. It’s the first draft of the book that Kerouac turned into his publisher … it’s uncensored and uses real names. It was typed on one long sheet of paper that was rolled into a scroll when handed in to the publisher. IMHO, it is THE definitive version of ‘On the Road’.

I have the censored version which I’ve only read a chapter of about a year ago and for some reason forgot to finish it – should I keep reading or buy the ORIGINAL version and read that first?

I’d like to read both to see what publishers were like back then – what do you recommend?

    • @JCZ — I say read the original, uncensored version first. That way you get everything. The censored classic is still fantastic but feel incomplete when compared to the original.

Wow, I’d never heard of the original scroll version. I’m going to check that out! Did you know that Dean (or rather the real life person he was based on Neal Cassady) was also in “The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test?”

    • @Z — Yeah, the Original Scroll was first published about 3 years ago (I think). It’s the same ‘On the Road’ story but uncensored (there are a lot more curse words in the original draft/scroll) and the characters in the story use their real names (ie. Jack, Neal, etc.). It’s an amazing read, truly. I did not know about Cassady in ‘Kool Aid’, thanks for the head’s up.

Man, will you quit shitting on Kristen Stewart? Just because the Twilight franchise sucks doesn’t mean that she’s not a good actor in her own right.

    • @Madeleine — How am I “shitting” on anyone? I feel it is absolutely fine to be worried about someone’s acting performance in one film when I’ve been very disappointed by their performance in another film (or series of bad films). I’d hardly say that being worried about someone’s performance is in any way, shape or form “shitting” on them.

This IS my favorite book of all time and I have never and will never be on board with this film.

So, another trailer for a film starring Kristen Stewart in which she says (I think) nothing at all (the other being the Snow White one).

too bad viggo’s in it – amazing actor but I won’t watch anything by him since he “signed a petition condemning the Toronto Film Festival for succumbing to Israeli efforts to “re-brand” an apartheid society.”
