Carrie Bradshaw’s Father Is Cast In ‘The Carrie Diaries’

Last month we learned that AnnaSophia Robb won the role of young Carrie Bradshaw and Stefania Owen was cast as her little sister Dorrit. Today we learn that actor Matt Letscher has been cast in the role of Carrie’s father. Click below to meet the man that will play the father that presumably gave Carrie her unresolvable daddy issues.

Matt Letscher has been tapped for a co-starring role in the CW pilot Carrie Diaries. The project, based on Candace Bushnell’s novel, chronicles Carrie Bradshaw’s (AnnaSophia Robb) coming of age in the 1980s when she asks her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family while exploring the worlds of high school and Manhattan. Letscher will plat Carrie’s father. The actor, repped by IFA and Sanders Armstrong Caserta, is recurring on two upcoming series, NBC’s Bent and ABC’s Scandal.

Now, I haven’t read The Carrie Diaries but I’m going to assume that the storyline there is pretty different from the one that we got in the Sex and the City series. In SaTC, Carrie famously revealed that her father abandoned her at a young age. So either the father cast in The Carrie Diaries is a step father (that she never mentioned before) OR the new series is not following the storyline that follows chronologically in SaTC. Nonetheless, Carrie now has a father and he will be played by Letscher. I wonder who will get the gig of playing Carrie’s mother. HMMM. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if Sarah Jessica Parker starred on The Carrie Diaries as Carrie’s mom?

I just read The Carrie Diaries and in it her mom died when she was younger and her and her two sisters are being raised by their dad.

  • Claire

I hate that they are even using the SATC name on this.

  • Jo

carrie bradshaw has no father. lol

  • Missy

Right. Cause it’s not like it’s based off a book written by the same author as Sex and the City.

Also SatC didn’t even stick to their own continuity. Carrie says her dad left when she was little, but in the episode where she dates the comic book store owner, she talks about driving around in her parents’ car.

    • @Missy — Maybe she drove around the car that her father left when he left?

Candace Bushnell sold the rights to SatC to Darren Starr early on in the piece. She didn’t write the episodes of the series. I hate that the Carrie Diaries even exist and won’t be watching. She is just trying to cash in on something she got rid of years ago.
Carrie’s father left her and her mum when she was 5, but we can safely assume that her mother remarried, hence the driving of her parent’s car.

maybe they’ve cast him only to leave 1/2 ways through the season as a mid-season cliff-hanger?

  • Iheartaustin

What?! The Carrie diaries are by the same author! You would think she would follow her own storyline! But maybe the show just said the dad thing so pol wouldn’t ask questions about why we never met her family.

  • Shannon

Yes candance bushnell wrote sex and the city and the Carrie diaries but didn’t write the whole show. In the Carrie diaries carries dad is pretty great and wants only the best for his daughter

  • CB

This show is a bad idea.

I’ve read the books, Carrie actually lives with her Father and sisters as her mother passed away years before. It will interesting to see what path they take in this series. I especially liked the way the end of the first book ties into SaTC.
