Oprah Winfrey Previews Her Upcoming Interview With Whitney Houston’s Family

Earlier this week we got to check out a preview video from Oprah Winfrey’s upcoming interview with Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina on Oprah’s Next Chapter. Today we get to check out another preview from the show where Oprah talks with other members of Whitney’s family. In addition to talking with Bobbi Kris, Oprah also sat down with Whitney’s brother and sister-in-law. Click below to get a peek of Oprah’s chat with them before the interview airs in full this Sunday night.

Oprah Winfrey’s big get is inching ever closer to its big premiere, but while her sit-down with Whitney Houston’s family, including daughter Bobbi Kristina, doesn’t air until Sunday, E! Online has a first look at the interview. Among the family members in line for an emotional outpouring is Patricia Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law and onetime manager. Though obviously devastated by the untimely death, Patricia also made no attempt to hide the fact that she always suspected a premature and tragic end to Whitney’s life. “The handwriting was kind of on the wall,” she told Oprah, when asked if she thought drugs would end up taking the superstar’s life. “I would be kidding myself to say otherwise.” She also noted that while, at some point in Whitney’s life, she feared that the singer’s destructive behavior would lead to her untimely passing, she and others truly believed that the danger period had ended. “If things hadn’t changed, but things were changing, things were really changing with her, very much so,” she said. “It wasn’t about the substance abuse or anything like that relative to the latter days or anything like that, I think it was more of lifestyle. I was afraid for other things, lifestyle more so than…” she trailed off. Not letting a tease like that go unanswered, Oprah pressed her on what, exactly, it was about her lifestyle that seemed so threatening. “I saw her chasing a dream, looking for love in all the wrong places.” Expect more elaboration on that and more this weekend, when the full hourlong special airs on OWN.

Wow. This interview looks so compelling, you better believe I will be watching this episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter in full as soon as possible. I’m curious to hear more about this notion that Whitney was “looking for love in all the wrong places”. I understand Whitney was romantically linked with Ray J in the days leading up to her death (and, in fact, the couple were romantic in years past, too) so I’m guessing this is what Patricia Houston is talking about. I hope she is able to elaborate. Honestly, I’m not sure that this interview will give us, the viewing audience, much closure because we are going to believe what we’re going to believe (and we will never know the full story). But I do hope it gives Whitney’s family some closure … especially Bobbi Kristina. She has a rough road ahead of her without her mother in her life. I just want to see that young girl thrive and overcome this time in her life. I don’t expect that we’ll be getting more previews from this interview since it airs in full in just 2 days so … I guess we’ll have to wait until Sunday night to see more.

I am actually disgusted with the timing of the interview. I mean Whitney is barely cold in the ground and the interviews with her family were being pushed and showing. I can not imagine being poor Bobbi Kristina and agreeing to discuss her pain on national television like that.
