David Beckham Gets Pissed After An Idiot Throws A Beer Can At Him On The Soccer Field

Seriously, What. The. F*ck?!

David Beckham and the LA Galaxy were in Toronto, Ontario last night for a soccer match against Toronto FC and ended up walking away with a 2-2 tie. But, during the game, an idiot in the stands thought it would be funny to throw an empty beer can at Becks as he tried to make a corner kick. Obviously pissed, Becks fumed a bit before he carried on and played as usual … helping his time with their 2-2 tie. Click below to see some photos from last night’s game … and check out the sizable beer can that some moron decided to throw at him.

David Beckham was fuming last night when a Toronto FC fan pelted him with a beer can during a football match in Canada last night. The Los Angeles Galaxy player was preparing to take a corner when the empty packaging was hurled at him from a member of the crowd at the Rogers Centre. The can was an attempt to distract the 37-year-old, who had already been covered in streamers, as he stood on the side of the pitch. Clearly unamused, Becks picked up the can and shook it at the crowd, demonstrating his displeasure. However, he managed to get the last laugh when he kicked the ball to team-mate Landon Donovan, who ended up equalising 2-2. Speaking about the incident later, Beckham said: ‘Tonight was a great atmosphere. The majority were here to enjoy the spectacle. ‘It’s a shame some people spoiled it. It’s disappointing kids see it … but it was a great atmosphere.’

Clearly not all Toronto fans are this idiotic and, to be honest, we can’t even be sure it was a Toronto FC fan who hurled the beer can … but very obviously there are idiots everywhere. It sucks that some fools have to ruin the fun for everyone but I commend David Beckham for being the bigger person and choosing to focus on the positive aspects of last night’s game rather than the clearly negative assault on his person. Becks is a pro, plain and simple.

  1. makes me so sad that it happened in my city but lets face it – every soccer game has its idiots no matter where you go, just seems to be part of the game.
i know a lot of people who went to that game last night – that incident aside – they said it was a fantastic night.

    • There are crazy fans in any sport..No need to single out soccer fans! I will say that, IMO, soccer fans are the most passionate of any other sport..Just part of the reason soccer is the best sport in the world!! And, not that I’m biased or anything, but Liverpool FC fans are especially passionate and awesome..:)

I was so embarrassed watching this game yesterday… some people are real idiots.. throwing a beer can at Beckham and trying to avoid him from taking a good corner kick with all those stupid streamers… I mean come on now…what jerks.. I can see why some Toronto FC fans wouldn’t like Beckham but trying to purposely hurt his game by all those nasty tactics like get a life…some soccer fans are idiots..(btw i’m from Toronto)and I was so embarrassed by the way the fans reacted and i’m pretty sure it was a Toronto FC fan that threw that can at him….idiot, idiot, idiot

The people who did those things, don’t seem to have faith in thier teams ability/talent. Because if they did, they wouldn’t have to do such things.

Soccer fans are C R A Z Y! I have been told about a couple of soccer players being killed by rabid fans for making mistakes in the game. I remember reading about one in Colombia.

I was at the game yesterday! I don’t agree with the empty beer can being thrown (someone can get pretty hurt if it knocks them just the right way!) but the streamers? HARMLESS FUN! It’s all in the spirit of the game, which is so refreshing to see at BMO Field, considering that Toronto FC is still a relatively new team.

Another reason why I love to see these kinds of shenanigans- In Toronto, it’s rare to find someone who IS purely of Canadian descent. The vast majority of the population consists of immigrants and First/Second Generation Canadians. This diversity is especially made clear during the Euro/World Cup (Euro’s coming up soon! Cannot wait!) and things can get pretty nasty and competitive transculturally in Toronto. But to see everyone of different backgrounds sitting in those stands, cheering for one cause.. it’s really a sight to see!

I’m not saying this gives Torontonians to act like douches towards the guests. Throwing that beer can was completely unacceptable and I’m embarassed for whoever did it! That being said, that wasn’t the first time the streamers have been pulled out on someone and I have the utmost confidence that the stunt had nothing to do with Beckham himself. It’s just a bunch of (overly?) diehard TFC fans reminding the guests where they are.

I’ve played soccer my whole life and I’ll tell you that there’s no one more dedicated to playing fair and earnestly, and that means being modest on the field and off and hoping that your spectators are the same. But I would hardly call the streamers a negative assault.

PHEW… Don’t get me talking about soccer ever again! I’ll never shut up xD
