International Character Posters For ‘Battleship’ Hit The Internets

Last July, we got to check out the first teaser trailer for the film version of the classic boardgame Battleship. In December, the second trailer was released. Today we learn that the promo push for the film has begun internationally with the release of the film’s first character posters in Italy. Click below to see some of Battleship’s main characters each in their own international movie poster for the film.

Although it’s been said that art imitates life, art is imitating art in Rihanna’s case. The 24-year-old singer seems to be channelling two of her own songs – Good Girl Gone Bad and Hard – in the international poster for her big screen movie debut. She certainly looks tough, though still beautiful, in the snap. The Bajan beauty is covered in dirt and devoid of her usual glamorous hair, nails or accoutrements. Instead, she trades in her bling and expensive purses for a machine gun, and designer duds for army fatigues. Her character’s love of tattoos has remained the same, though … Rihanna stars as US Navy officer Raikes in the film, which also stars Liam Neeson, Alexander Skaarsgard, Brooklyn Decker and Taylor Kitsch … The movie sees a group of international navy ships come under attack from an alien enemy during an ‘international naval war games’ … Battleship is due for release in the US on May 18.

The cast of Battleship may be impressive but, no, this movie looks like a hot mess. It bares ZERO resemblance to the boardgame it’s supposed to be based upon and, in all honesty, it looks more like a Transformers rip-off than anything. I get that the producers of the Transformers films are the ones who made Battleship but c’mon … do the films have to look identical. I can’t say I’m really impressed … not really. In a year with so many other great films coming out, I know that Battleship is not high on my list of Must See movies. I’m very curious to see how well this film does at the box office. I’m not really interested, are you?

I’m really conflicted about this film.
On the one hand, it looks truly awful. On the other, muddy Alex Skarsgard.

The trailer plays exactly like a Transformers trailer, even the musical score and sound effects. Calling it a Transformers rip-off though isn’t doing it any favours considering how terrible the Transformers movies are. As a no-brainer, nil-attention, thinking or brain movement required, Transformers are great movies. As for everything else, it’s just a waste of money that can be spent on greater things, especially when some scenes/effects are re-used from previous films.
