Author Suzanne Collins Has Seen ‘The Hunger Games’ And LOVES It

"I’m really happy with ['The Hunger Games' film]"

One of the perks of being the author of The Hunger Games trilogy of books is that you get to see the film version of your story before anyone else does. Author Suzanne Collins was able to see The Hunger Games film in full and she posted a message on her official Facebook page letting fans know her thoughts on the big screen adaptation of her novel. In addition to reading her comments in full, you can also see below a set of new photos from the film courtesy of Entertainment Weekly magazine. Click below for all the NEW Hunger Games goodness.

Dear Readers,

I’ve just had the opportunity to see the finished film of The Hunger Games. I’m really happy with how it turned out. I feel like the book and the film are individual yet complementary pieces that enhance one another. The film opens up the world beyond Katniss’ point of view, allowing the audience access to the happenings of places like the Hunger Games control room and President Snow’s rose garden, thereby adding a new dimension to the story.

Director Gary Ross has created an adaptation that is faithful in both narrative and theme, but he’s also brought a rich and powerful vision of Panem, its brutality and excesses, to the film as well. His world building’s fantastic, whether it be the Seam or the Capitol. It’s amazing to see things that are suggested in the book fully developed and so brilliantly realized through the artistry of the designers.

And, my God, the actors. The cast, led by the extraordinary Jennifer Lawrence, is absolutely wonderful across the board. It’s such a pleasure to see how they’ve embodied the characters and brought them to life.

So I’d like to sincerely thank all the many people who devoted their time and talents to the film, especially producers Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik, and the excellent teams at Color Force, Larger Than Life, and Lionsgate.

I hope you enjoy the film!

Suzanne Collins

Woot! It’s always a very good thing when the author of a film’s source material has many good things to say about the film version of their novel. I’ve been impressed with everything that I’ve seen of the film thus far but Collins has a very unique perspective. It must be odd for her to see something that she created brought to life by other people … very likely without much control. I’m greatly encouraged that she has so many good things to say. Now, as for those new photos … check out 3 new photos from The Hunger Games that feature President Snow, Seneca Crane, Katniss Everdeen and more:

At this point, all the new photos are more torturous than anything. I’m SO ready to see this film … Lordy, I can’t even tell you. I understand there are new TV commercials for the film out this week but … I’m exercising restraint and I’m staying away from them. We are so close to the film’s release … I want to just see it already. Now that we know that Suzanne Collins enjoys the film, we wait to hear what the critics think … but honestly, all that really matters is what fans think. I’m confident I’m gonna love this film. I can’t wait to put that belief to the test.

I am so happy she gave it such a glowing review! “I feel like the book and the film are individual yet complementary pieces that enhance one another” was a brilliant point to make because we need to remember that this movie will not be the book exactly! It’s an interpretation! And I have full faith that it will be an amazing interpretation! I can’t wait to see the world of Panem come to life on the big screen!

Also, did you see that Josh Hutcherson has also seen the movie? He tweeted about it last week or so and said he loved it and everyone’s performances were wonderful, etc. So happy with all of the excitement from those involved!

  2. Whew…..what a relief!!! I’m so glad she liked it! I’m very intrigued by the bits she mentioned. It will be interesting to see the other side of the Hunger Games, the control room, President’s Snow’s involvement, etc. So excited!

I am glad she liked it! It must be a challenge for her to see her world moulded differently in the hands of others…

While I am confident it will be great I dont trust her review. She makes money off this film of course she isnt gonna say its bad. She’d only say it AFTER its out and people have paid to see it haha.

But I am so pumped for the movie. I read the books a year ago and this wait has been torture i dont know how the people who read it when it first came out have lasted this long!

I am too excited fro this! They are doing advanced screenings in 24 cities and they’ve “unlocked” one in my city. Once it’s unlocked you can put your email in and try to win a spot to see it early. Here’s the link: http://screenings.thehungergamesmovie.com/#

I’m such a dork that I would even go to the tour at MOA, but I’ll be out of town that day.
