Jennifer Aniston Thinks That A ‘Friends’ Movie Is A Bad Idea

Yesterday we heard that Jennifer Aniston was given a Hollywood Walk of Fame star, and that she was the first Friends star to be awarded one. There has been talk for a few months about the possibility of a Friends movie but so far nothing has been confirmed or developed. Yesterday Jen spoke openly about how she would feel if the TV series that made her famous was to get made into a movie. Surprisingly, she is not a fan of the idea of a Friends film.

Jen Aniston told The Hollywood Reporter that she “can’t imagine how you would do it, unless you did it years from now.” She also said that she thinks the whole fundamental character of the show was watching it from a couch in your living room, so it wouldn’t make sense to make it into a movie.

“Then it would be: “Who are these guys? What are we watching?” I can’t imagine what that would be. It’s not normal. Friends is in your living room; Friends is not in a movie theater. It doesn’t make sense to me. I think it would be going against its authentic self.

I was a HUGE fan of the series Friends, and I would be super excited if there was a film version made. It would need to have the 6 original stars on board for it to work, from my perspective. I think that a future vision of where the characters are in years to come COULD be amazing… ‘could’ though is the operative word. With such a classic, it would need to be very well thought out and written in such a way so it doesn’t ruin the memory of the series. Sex and the City comes to mind here…

I see what Jen is saying because it was definitely all about 6 friends sitting on a couch together, and the experience of watching the show was very much a living room experience, so a film version would definitely be a big change. Still, there are so many people that LOVED Friends and miss the show and characters dearly that I think a movie version would be well received. What worries me, and I imagine many others out there too, is how it would be done, and if it would damage the series as it stands in our collective memory.

What do you think about a Friends movie, do or don’t?

I don’t know about a movie, she’s right… Friends belong to the living room it’s was a comedy, if there’s was a movie they’d to eliminate the audience and film it without people laughing, but I always hoped for a special reunion, like a thanksgiving day episode or something similar :)

That’s weird considering that she still playing Rachel in every single movie she does …

      LOL too true

My thoughts exactly, she’s been playing Rachel Green since the show went off the air.

I too wouldn’t want to see a Friends movie. But, I would love to see some type of special episode. I would love to see where the characters are. More importantly, I just miss the show.

It would be GREAT if they could do a mini-series catch up, or just one made for tv movie sort of episode. For a movie to work though…they would have to make something *too* out there happen (I.e. the Sex in the City going to the middle east) that would be suuuuch a push, it wouldn’t feel like Friends.

I am so SO happy rewatching the series over and over again, but I would looove to get an update of sorts. A special episode would be perfect! But, if they do make a movie I will be first in line. I don’t even care. I just love everything about Friends.

Thanksgiving tv special please! Btw Friends is the best show ever

  • Brittany

Agreed, how about a special Thanksgiving TV-movie? Lol.

  • I think we have to leave well enough alone. I agree with Jennifer Aniston to a degree: if they (the Powers That Be) were to do a reunion show, it would have to be a few years from now. It’s too soon.

But even Matt LeBlanc has said recently that if there was enough money in it, he’d do it. I think, honestly, that’s what would, sadly, dictate the whole project – who gets what.

Friends is one of my all time favourite shows. I was sad to see it go and I’ve hoped for a movie. But I’m starting to think that she is right and that a movie probably wouldn’t be that great.
