Whitney Houston Has Passed Away At 48

OMG! NOOOOOO :(

No … NO! I am … in total shock. Just moments ago the Associated Press announced on Twitter that singer Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48. I absolutely did not believe it … no way. There are far too many death hoaxes on Twitter that I refused to believe it … but, I’m sad to say … the news is true. Whitney has died :(

Here is the AP tweet about Whitney‘s death:

TMZ has confirmed the news as true but there is, thus far, no information about the cause of death … they do clarify that she died this afternoon at the Beverly Hilton hotel:

Whitney Houston died this afternoon … a rep for the singer told the Associated Press. Paramedics were called to the Beverly Hilton today when Houston was found unresponsive in her hotel room … sources tell TMZ. We’re told police arrived to the scene within minutes and fire was already there on another call. According to our sources, paramedics performed CPR but it did not work and she was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM. Our sources say there were to signs of foul play. We’re told she was ID’ed by family and friends. The singer famously battled drug addiction for years. Houston won two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards during her record-breaking career. Her album “Whitney” was the first female album to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard Charts. She has sold 200 million albums world wide. Houston holds an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities from Grambling State University in Louisiana. Houston had one child, Bobbi Kristina, with husband Bobby Brown. Houston and Brown were married from 1992-2007. We spotted Whitney out just last weekend with on-again/off-again beau Ray-J

Whitney was spotted in the Beverly Hilton hotel lobby last night/earlier today and was set to attend Clive Davis‘ annual pre-Grammy party at the hotel tonight — where expected guests include Britney Spears, Cee Lo, David Guetta, Tom Hanks and others. And just this week we learned she was approached by The X Factor to become a judge.

Meanwhile Ray J, the singer (and Brandy‘s younger brother) who’s had an on-again off-again relationship with Whitney, was reported to have been the one who found her body but that seems to be a rumor and not true. Interestingly just this week in an interview he described their relationship as a “friendship … that’s my friend,” and refused to acknowledge there was a romance. He also described her condition as “great.”

I know Whitney was spotted at a pre-Grammy party on Thursday night and, well, every single report focused on how unwell she looked. As always, I just overlooked those reports as frivolous, unimportant information. At this point, we cannot be sure what the cause of death is but … I’m in shock — complete and utter shock!!! I am having a very hard time believing this … I am literally shaking as I type this. I’m just … heartbroken :(

I will do my best to update as more information is made available. My thoughts, prayers and condolences are with Whitney‘s family, especially her daughter Bobbi Kristina.

Shock … in complete shock :(

Im not shocked. Honestly im shocked she lasted this long.

    Totally agree with Nicole.

    Rest In Peace.
One of the most beautiful voices ever.
    So very sad.

  7. Joon

    Shock.

    • Susan

This is just horrible.. so young. Bobbie Brown Rot in hell. And I am sure you will

    • ChristineLA

As much as I would like to blame him, there have been rumors for years and years that she went into that relationship an addict, not that he turned her into one.

  8. Kelly

I had really thought she was turning her life around. Didn’t she have a new movie coming out with Jordin Sparks? This is such sad news.

I hope the Grammys have time to do something to honor her tomorrow. She had such a voice.

    • crystalblueskies

i know, i thought she was doing well since she had the movie with Jordin. apparently, she’s still struggling with her own battles. i am currently listening to her song now.. last week i even watched The Bodyguard and 2 days ago i saw her on TMZ.. and this happened. i was shouting, WHY?! WHY?! when i saw the news flashed on tv. it’s sudden.. :(

  9. Katie C.

Hollywood and drugs claims yet another victim. So sad.

  10. banana

oh my god i don’t know why but i just felt so…

  11. Revan Vampir

I’m in total disbelief. Like Kelly states, I too thought she was getting her life back in order. This is such a huge loss. I am totally dumbfounded.

Rest now Whitney – you are in a far better place. Remember, we will ALWAYS love you.

    Love and light…

    Revan

  12. Wow..This is awful news! I remember the first time I heard a Whitney Houston song was at my oldest sister’s place in Ventura..She was a huge fan and played her record for us..After that I was hooked! Her voice was so great back in the day..I really thought she was doing ok now..I’m so sad and my heart goes out to her family..

  13. LeAnne

She was my first concert as well, I have so many wonderful memories of her music as a kid. I am so sorry for her daughter.

  14. Jenn

    So young…so sad.

RIP Whitney…in my opinion, the greatest singer ever…

  15. Susan

She inspired so many people.. her legacy will be forever be lived… I consider her in the same category as far as a performer with Michael Jackson.. don’t you agree

  16. Dgrin

i hope the bad comments about her latest appearance have nothing to do with this, i mean how much of “internet bullying” can a fragile person who is trying to put their life back together take?? RIP Whitey…

  17. cds

    Crack is Wack!

  18. Erika

So tragically sad! Cant imagine what her daughter is going through…Will keep her family in prayers RIP Whitney

  19. Asha

Why is everyone blaming Bobby Brown? I am sure Whitney was already a druggie before s he met Brown, because who else would hook up with a Bobby Brown beside a gold digger.

So sad, she was so beautiful and an amazing voice.

    • Susan

Why would you think Whitney was a Gold Digger.. If anyone was he was. He was also an abusive so called man. He knows it I am sure and he has to live with what he did to her. If he died today honestly who would really care???

    • Asha

I am not calling Whitney a gold digger. I said only a drug addict or a gold digger would pick a Bobby Brown as a mate. But there is another issue, maybe she felt she wasn’t Black enough for the Black community (so maybe she had to go out with a thug to be accepted).

  20. Magan

I’m totally shocked. I thought that Whitney had everything together, passed the drugs, but I had seen tat she was drinking over the weekend. I never thought she’d be dead a few days later. I was hoping that she’d get passed all that but sadly, it wasn’t meant to be. RIP Whitney! You were one of the greats and always will be!

  21. Ella

I am so sad to hear this. I was hoping since she had kicked bobby brown to the curb that finally things were turning around.

    RIP Whitney.

  22. Shavonne

My mom, my sister and I would gather in the kitchen and play the Waiting To Exhale soundtrack when we were sad. Makes it worse when we’re gathering around Whitney’s music to be sad :( No matter her personal pains, she will be missed.

  23. David

OMG. I’M SHOCKED! I WISH I COULD SAY IT WAS A SURPRISING YOU KNOW WITH HER PAST BUT UTTERLY SHOCKING. ONE OF THE LEGENDARY VOICES OF ALL TIMES GONE. VERY SAD

  24. Lynne

May she Finally Rest In Peace. I’m SO heartbroken. ;(

  25. I luv whiteney u will always be the most important person in my life. You help me found what i waz looking for within my self and that was life regardness to what our pass uphold it should never hold us back for what we strive for. See GOD!!gave us a gift, and that was life it self. And what we do with the life he gave us his, the gift we give back to him. God want us to be the soilder he need us to be when we allow ourseleves to be subjected to the outside world we become part of the madness. That’s where we become loss out of out of GOD!!Kingdom. I pray that came become that every women’s that’ in me FORGIVE US LORD FOR WHAT WE ALLOW OURSELEVES TO GO THROUGH, PLZ HELP ME GET MYSELF TOGETHER.AMEN

  26. Sad and still unbelievable. It’s not right for a parent to bury their child… Thoughts and prayers to Bobbi Kristina. I hope this is a strong lesson to her about the dangers of (alleged) drug use.

  27. bmurr

If they didn’t transport her to the hospital she was dead for awhile. The only reason not to when there is no sign of foul play is that she was dead for awhile. What a shame she was an amazing singer .

  28. Oscar

I don’t know what to think. These news are abominable.I think it was yesterday or a day before that she was taken from I think a restaurant with blood on her left leg. They show her leg with blood dripping on it.They never explained what was the problem. She did not look good either. What a horrible preamble to the Grammys.May she Rest in Peace in God’s Presence.

  29. Felly

Heartbreaking…For the first time I heard that she was dead…I don’t believe it! She die at young age…I will miss her just like her other fans, her music and songs and inspiration will LIVE FOREVER!

  30. Elle

This is unbelievable. I was rocking out to It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay last night while doing my dishes and had this moment when I thought “What a voice! I hope we get to hear a new album from her soon.”
For those of us that grew up with her iconic voice, this is truly a tragedy.
This is unbelievable and so very sad. My thoughts and prayers are with her daughter tonight.
The world has truly lost a magnificent voice.

  31. JeniLee

So sad but this is about as shocked as Amy Winehouse – in other words, not at all. So incredibly sad though since I grew up listening to Whitney. One of the best voices of all time :-(

  32. kevin

@Trent I fele the same way . when the breaking news came across my twitter I jumped up in shock. as I know she was part of the Grammys this week and Clive davis party tonight. Grammy people will be pulling an all nighter to come up with a fitting tribute

  33. Sistah_Tru

Hell just became a tad more glamorous…

  34. slg

    Such a talent/such a waste!

    • Susie

  35. Pry

    So unbelievably sad

  36. Sara

This is so sad. She had an unbelievable voice and was so full of talent. So young.
I just don’t know what to say, with all the deaths.
May she rest in eternal peace, free of all life’s demons.

  37. Jessicagiovanna

I hope Bobbi Kristina will be ok.. This is very sad.. I gre w up w/ her music.. There aren’t many real singers left and we just lost another one. Shocking, sad day :(

  38. Lita

Rip Whitney, you were too young, I thought a comeback was on the horizon for you.

  39. Iheartaustin

Can’t u just leave her demons out of this?! It’s heartless when u say ur not surprised!

My thoughts and prayers go to her family and especially her daughter I couldn’t imagine losing my mother now she sings with the voice of an angel as an angel!

R.I.P Whitney Houston music “will have nothing” without you!

  40. Amanda

Any news on what I just heard…that Topher Grace also passed away today?!

  41. Its was crazy hearing the news. Her voice was amazing, one in a million singers that come along. Bless her family and friends.

  42. Rob

On saturday I was listening to a special by Kathy Griffin in which she tells a story about Whitney Houston. She confronted her backstage and telling Kathy to stop making fun of her. Another story was about that special with Whitney on the Oprah show, it made me laugh so hard.

Now I just found out, I can’t believe that Whitney Houston is dead. It seems like all the legends we don’t appreciate enough are leaving us. Look at MJ, Amy and now Whitney. We were making fun of them and now it’s too late to thank them for their beautiful music we enjoyed so much.

She was too young to go, I thought she was doing better, hopefully her dead is not drugs/alchohol related.

I wish her daughter Bobbi and family/friends all the best in the world.

An icon has left us, but her music will live forever!

  43. John

RIP the world has lost an incredible talent. Her voice was a gift from God. Sad she couldn’t defeat her demons :(

  44. cutitout

I am so sad, I was not expecting this at all. I loved whitney. Praying for her family and child.

  45. Ashley

I’m heartbroken. My two favorite entertainers (Whitney and MJ) are gone now, and I am kind of at a loss. Maybe it feels silly that I feel this way, but it’s so sad that these people are gone so soon. :( I was just watching The Bodyguard the other day and jamming to the music. I have almost all of Whitney’s movies and CDs…so I think I’m gonna have a Whitney day. Miss and love you, Whitney, our Queen of the Night.

  46. sarahhh

shocked last night when i found out and still shocked. her personal issues aside i hope people remember her amazing voice. definitely one of the rest! she’s one of the few that i prefer to hear live.

  47. Isabelle

I’m totally heartbroken. I don’t even know what to say.

  48. muchacha

I saw someone post the news on FB last night, and immediately came here because I knew you would post something Trent. Was it only a couple of years ago that you posted about Whitney’s newest music that made me so excited to hear her voice again? I know she had problems, and like so many others, it’s too bad that it looks like these struggles took her from us way too soon.

  49. Jatrod Storm

Where did she make a wrong turn. She was slated to marry inter-racial ( a white dude ) but her girl friends talked her into marrying within her own race. Bobby Brown, doofus, spender of the woman’s money, slow burn alleged murderer / killer of the once super star who rose out of clean gospel. She cool.. just snort a little.

  50. banana

it’s not simply the passing of a great music legend. those of us who grew up with her music, it seems we lost a part of our childhood as well. at least that’s how it feels for me.

    • splacer

I can relate banana. It feels like little pieces of my childhood died right along with MJ and now with Whitney.

      They were both uncomparable talents.

  51. iremsu

ı think that she was ate a wrong or drink a drug or somethin’

  52. nelson reiber

    she’s really ‘one of a kind’ singer/actress.
