Meryl Streep And Tom Hanks In Talks To Do ‘Mary Poppins’ Film

Oh how exciting!!! I love Mary Poppins, always have! It first came out in 1964 and its been on Broadway and now its coming back, well, a version of it anyway. Disney is bringing Mary back for a new film about how Walt Disney got the rights to the book in the first place. The film is called Saving Mr. Banks and is rumored to have some awesome actors starring in it including the incredible, Meryl Streep, and Tom Hanks. Read on for more of the details…

Nothing yet has been confirmed but there is talk of these two starring as the leads in the new flick. Apparently Disney has been working on the film for quite awhile now and it really wants that big star power to go with it. Lets hope Meryl and Tom do sign onto this project because it would be a great one to look forward to. I’m interested to see how they do this story because it could allude subtly to the classic or completely start from the back end… I think Meryl would be perfect to play the role of author, Aussie P.L. Travers. Would Tom be taking on the role of Disney?

I have to disagree. Meryl is great, but as Mary Poppins? This was my favorite movie as a child. Some things are better left alone. Mary Poppins is one of them.

    • @Adrienne — I think you misunderstand … they are not remaking Mary Poppins, they are planning to make a film about the creation of the Mary Poppins film.

I misunderstood too. I was praying that Meryl wouldn’t be singing because I’m sorry but Mamma Mia…just no.

Now that I get what the actual movie will be about, I think it could be interesting.
