Already today we’ve seen video of Madonna‘s AMAZING Super Bowl XLVI halftime show and we’ve heard about the, IMHO, completely asinine “fingergate” controversy that seems to be growing over M.I.A. middle finger flipping at the Super Bowl yesterday … but let’s move the focus back to something more positive from the big game. Kelly Clarkson was chosen as the featured performer of The Star Spangled Banner before Super Bowl XLVI yesterday and by pretty much all accounts — she gave an excellent performance. Without question, The Star Spangled Banner is one of the most difficult songs to sing. It’s a song that is full of hard notes to hit and, unfortunately for some, difficult lyrics to remember. There wasn’t a single hint of either problem in Kelly‘s performance of the song yesterday. Clarkson didn’t have to resort to vocal theatrics, nor did she have to overdue it with dramatics in any way … she just sang the song and did so beautifully. It’s been a very long time since I’ve really loved a performance of The Star Spangled Banner (not since Whitney Houston‘s performance at Super Bowl XXV back in 1991) but Kelly really nailed the song wonderfully. kelly did a stellar job for sure. you should check faith hill’s rendition from the superbowl in 2000. she hits the earth-defying notes and brings the house down. up there with whitney’s rendition.
I love the kids faces in the choir and how into they are! Great performance by Kelly! Love her.
Kelly is always a class act. She nailed it. I like when artists really make it about the National Anthem and not about showing off. She mentioned on Facebook/twitter that she was really nervous, but you would never even know it. In my opinion, it’s the best rendition.
I saw her on tour last month and I just have to say that she is amazing. She leaves you with such an impact afterwards. Her opening sequence just blew me away. There was a screen that displayed like newspaper clippings and headlines saying all these terrible things about her (commerical failure, weight issues, etc). It really struck a chord with me. And she was just dead-on all night. She’s just wonderful.
