Good ol’ R.Kelly has released a new single, ‘Share My Love’ just in time for Valentine’s Day, which is a couple of weeks away. He has written and produced the song, and it is supposed to be an indication of what his upcoming album ‘Write Me Back’ will be like, which is due out in May. Have a listen and see what you think of the R&B singers new funk/soul sound…
There is no denying that R.Kelly’s career over the span of 18 years as a soul/R&B singer has been pretty successful. He has made 6 albums, released 11 singles, and gotten 12 consecutive platinum albums. I (embarrassingly) loved his hit anthem “I Believe I Can Fly.” (Ok, I still kind of get shivers when I hear it now.) This new song though I’m not sure about… it has a distinctly disco, soul/funk feel to it and reminds me of the style of Barry White and Marvin Gaye (who I love, I’m just not sure it is how I like R.Kelly).
I give him credit though for continuing to break from the traditional formula. He constantly pushes the envelope and evolves his personal style – I’m just not sure if this is the direction that R.Kelly should be going in, for me. Personally, I like his more R&B sexy thing, for example his pairing with Usher in 2007 with ‘Same Girl.’
Still, I will always have a soft spot for R.Kelly…maybe because I will always get shivers from the corny, ‘I believe I can Fly.’ I think he will always keep his fans. What do you think though?
Do you like this soul/disco focus for R.Kelly? What do you think of ‘Share My Love’?0
