SAG Awards Names Best Talent On The Small and Silver Screen

Last night were the 18th annual Screen Actors Guild awards, or SAG, and we watched our favorite TV personalities and series win (or lose, depending on who are your faves.) Did you catch the award ceremony? What did you think of the winners? Read on for the details of who took home the trophies ..

Outstanding female actor in a comedy series went to the dear, Betty White and she gave a gorgeous speech, saying “Oh my dears, my dears, my dear”. Actor in a comedy series went to Alec Baldwin for 30 Rock. Octavia Spencer took home the accolade for female actor in a supporting role for The Help, thanking all the women who made it possible for her to be there. Veteran actor Christopher Plummer took home the award for male actor in supporting role for his work on Beginners.

The Modern Family cast won Best Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Kate Winslet (who couldn’t be there) was awarded the Best Actress in a TV movie or miniseries for Mildred Pierce and Paul Giamatti, also absent, was given the award for performance by an actor in a TV movie or miniseries for Too Big to Fail. Steve Buscemi got the Male Actor in a Drama Series prize for Boardwalk Empire. They also took home the award for Ensemble in a Drama Series (for the second year!).

Jean Dujardin gracefully accepted the award for Outstanding Male Actor in a Leading Role for the most talked about film of the year, The Artist. Outstanding Female Actress went to the beautiful, Viola Davis, who got a standing ovation for her work in The Help. Viola’s passionate speech, about “dreaming big and fierce” evoked real emotion. The Help also took home the gong for Best Cast In A Motion Picture.

I am so proud of Viola and Octavia and the cast of The Help, who are just so deserving of the awards they took home. Viola’s speech about “inspiring change” really resonated strongly. Interestingly, overall The Help seemed to come out the strong winner, even over The Artist. Is this be a sign of what is to come in the Oscars?

What do you think of the winners, do you agree with the SAG choices?

The highlight for me was seeing Patrick, Linda & Larry from TV’s DALLAS present an award. They all looked great. TV Royalty in my opinion. Can’t wait for the Dallas reboot!
