MTV has decided to bring back the celebrity prank series Punk’d and in order to do so, they have to play new pranks on celebrities to be aired on the show. This weekend, MTV tried to pull a prank on Neil Patrick Harris … and they failed. Earlier in the day yesterday, NPH tweeted a photo of his partner David Burtka telling his Twitter followers that they were about to enjoy a day of rock climbing. A few hours later, Neil tweeted that the jig was up … he was WELL AWARE that MTV was trying to prank him on Punk’d (apparently, there was a bear involved). I guess he wasn’t supposed to publicly let people know that he knew he was being pranked, so he deleted the follow-up tweets. But you can still read all of the relevant Punk’d tweets and see the photo he posted below.

Rock climbing with @Davidburtka today. Chill Sunday fun.
At the time of his first tweet, I’m assuming, NPH had no idea that anything was amiss. He seemed really excited to be enjoying a “Chill Sunday” with David. Then came the follow-up tweets a few hours later:
So the rock climbing was a ruse to try and have me Punk’d. Nice try, MTV / It’ll take more than a live bear destroying my car to fool NPH.
Awww … that’s hilarious! See, Neil is one smart cookie. It takes a lot to fool a smartie like him. I suspect that MTV will be able to salvage a show out of this weekend’s attempted prank but, yeah, Neil was not fool’d. I’m guessing the folks at MTV asked him to delete some of his tweets in order to try and keep his episode under wraps. I understand that the new season of Punk’d will start airing on MTV on March 19. I wonder what other else will fall prey to getting punk’d on MTV.

i think its so sad that this show is coming back. am i the only one who thinks ashton kutcher is a total douche?
Well this should be interesting!
Is Ashton going to be the host again?
@Julia — No, Ashton will not appear on the show at all. Each episode will be hosted by a different celeb.
Oh, I thought he was joking when he twited about the bear/Punk’d.
Love NPH!!!!
I love Punk’d, I think its hilarious and it’s nice to see how celebs act when there “are no cameras around” lol well obv at least not to their knowledge :)
Hollywood is really running out of original ideas not just with movies but with t.v. shows too.
