Beyoncé To Be Honored With A Monument In Her Hometown

Houston, Texas, might get a lot more tourists now because they are planning to design and unveil a monument in honor of Beyonce, who grew up there. Designing of a statue, highlighting Bey’s life and showcasing memorabilia from her career is said to have already begun. Read below for more details about what the monument, or ‘mini museum’ will include…

CEO of the company, Marcus Mitchell, tells My Fox Houston, “Our biggest thing is a lot of people get honored when they die, so our goal is to why not honor people why they’re still here? We felt as though it’s her time to be honored. We wanted to construct, like, a massive hall so as the doors open, if you donated to the monument, you’ll have a separate nameplate.”

“There will be clips of Beyonce with Destiny’s Child and wardrobe like a mini museum. We’ve gotten support from the city of Houston, from the mayor.”

Wow, a Beyonce “museum” is such a fun, fabulous idea! I’m trying to picture it and not quite getting the pig picture because I’m not sure how they will incorporate clips, but I guess it will be a monument that you can enter and will contain screens, sound, and physical memorabilia – a Beyonce shrine of sorts! I am guessing that Beyonce has approved the project, because I assume legally they will need this, and also to gain access to some of the memorabilia, like costumes she has worn or the like. Given that we know that Bey is such a private person it is somewhat surprising, but I would think that being in her hometown, and raising funds for charities, is right up Beyonce’s alley.

I love that the city of Houston is all for it. I guess it might raise the profile of the big Texan city and bring in loads of adoring fans who might not have gone to Houston otherwise. Proceeds will be donated to charities, including Music for America and Beyonce’s Survivor Foundation (for victims of natural disasters).

They are planning to unveil the monument on September 4th – Beyonce’s birthday. Fall trip to Houston, anyone?

You do realize that Houston is the largest city in Texas and the fourth largest in the country, right? And while I do think a Beyonce museum would be popular, I don’t think it will bring “hordes of tourists” and a single statue of a pop star won’t “raise [the city’s] profile.” Not all of Texas is po-dunk and in the sticks.

    • @ KKM – of course, I didn’t mean that it isn’t a big city or that it doesn’t have a profile, just that it might attract some tourists now who might not have visited Houston otherwise.. and I do think it will raise the city’s profile. The fact that it is being written about now is a start!

I live in Houston and it’s well known that Beyonce is a pretty big benefactor to citizens of the city. She has quietly donated and underwritten different services and buildings for years.

I thought statues were reserved for heroes and heroines, Beyonce is a self indulged personality who now lives in NY and Calif, there have to be more deserving persons than Beyonce.

Are you kidding with me now.. Please.. Bey may be a good performer / artist, but what in the world has she done that makes her deserve a “Beyonce museum” ? I thought that REAL heros / heroines deserved to be honored, not a singer.. If they are planning to make a museum of Bey, please tell me they will make a museum to ALL artists in the world.. Cause Bey are just like the rest of them..
