Boy bands were massive circa 1997, think N’Sync and Backstreets Boys and it seems that they might be having a resurgence. The British boy band, The Wanted are embarking on their U.S. tour promoting their single, ‘Glad You Came’, and have plans to “crack” the U.S. market. Will they be able to do it?
The Wanted consists of 5 guys – George, Tom Parker, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness and Nathan Sykes. The band got together in 2009 and became pretty popular in the U.K. They have toured with some big names including Justin Bieber and they opened for Britney Spears on her Femme Fatale tour. The Wanted boys describe themselves as “badass and we sing our heads off and it gets sweaty.” Cuuute!
Parker said he’s overwhelmed by the response the guys have been getting city after city since coming over, which includes a performance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” “It’s all been really quick, actually, and we’ve only been over here for a week and we’ve seen it grow massively in just a week,” he said of the group’s popularity. “Well that’s the power of the Internet; social networking crosses over into so many different territories that for us it’s been crucial.”
They’ve got a few more weeks left of their tour of the States, and are really happy apparently with the reception they have gotten from their U.S. fans. Could we be seeing a new age of boy band hysteria?

I live in the UK so I know them quite well. Personally, I think they’re good but they are just mediocre. For me, I think JLS, another British boyband, are much stronger singers and performers. Even JLS have not managed to crack the US and I think the only British boyband who has the chance of cracking the US right now is One Direction – just because their girl teenage fan base is growing rapidly. I wish The Wanted well, but personally, not a huge fan.
These guys promote themselves as a boy band who does not dance. They don’t even try to hide the fact that they can’t dance. They can’t call themselves a boy band if they cannot dance. I don’t know any boy band from the last 15 years that didn’t dance. Just call yourself a group (I would say band but they don’t play any instruments) instead. Stop misrepresenting yourself. It’s just wrong!
They can still be a good vocal harmony group if they don’t dance, but the thing is their vocals are nothing special either. They can sing, but they’re no way at all outstanding
Annoyingly the boy bands have been stealing the top spot in the uk charts for a while, I agree with above, JLS are much better, they can dance and do some good club tracks. One Direction are worse than Bieber, because there is 5 of them and there teenage fan base is ridiculous, i am happy for the wanted and One Direction to crack the US, i hope they succeed and that you keep them!

I agree. They are “England cute”. America has a totally diffeent idea of cute boys IMO. Good luck lads.
i guess within the last year i have come to know all things UK. i think it started with trying to research Adele on some UK sites and come across stuff on The Wanted too. i agree that if they started in the US i can guarantee that Nathan and Tom would have been out by looks alone and maybe Siva too. Only Max and Jay (my fave) would be the hearthrobs of the group so to speak.
i think the fact that they don’t dance will probably hurt them too but they do play instruments just not all the time. I also think that they could have chosen a better song than “Glad you came” but oh well.

Never heard of them and to be honest I’m not very interested-however I wish them luck. It’s hard for foreign bands to even get shows booked in the US, so good luck to them. I’m sure since they speak English it will give them more of an advantage to be recognized than other foreign artist/musicians.
why hate on them so much? i love the fact that they’re coming over here, it’s a lot easier to access their music that way. You English are really lucky, and i bet none of you are even in the appropriate age group to know much about them.
and also, ONE DIRECTION IS LOVED! they’ve already been at America, and they’re spreading the news about themselves. They’ve done tours, are going to be on Icarly for an episode – if they WERE as bad as you say, no one would have heard of them. They wouldn’t get as far as they did on the X Factor. If they knew they were that bad, they wouldn’t have even auditioned for it. and saying somethings worse than Justin Bieber – who has the most watched video on Youtube, and millions – probably billions- of fans universally, is saying that they’re pretty significant.
