First Look: Photos Of Beyoncé’s Pimped Out Hospital Birthing Suite Hit The Internets

The Sweet Suite

Earlier this week we learned that the birth of Beyoncé and Jay-Z‘s firstborn child, Blue Ivy, was surrounded by controversy after reports surfaced that B-Jay‘s overzealous security detail at the hospital kept other patients at the hospital away from their newborn children born around the same time. Earlier today, PITNB writer Melissa blogged about the fact that in the wake of those allegations, an investigation has been launched at Lenox Hill Hospital. BUT … what about the pimped out birthing suite that B-Jay paid a reported $1+ million for? Well, TMZ brings us the first photos of the actual swankily remodeled suite where Blue Ivy was born … check ‘em out below.

Lenox Hill Hospital constructed a suite for VIPs which looks like a Four Seasons penthouse … and the room was christened Saturday when Beyonce gave birth. TMZ has obtained photos of the room where Blue Ivy came into this world, and it’s baller. There are 4 flat screen TV’s, state of the art electronics, a kitchenette, nice art, mahogany walls and plush furnishings. And take a look at the bed where Jay Z got some shut eye! Sources connected with the hospital tell TMZ … the suite was not constructed specifically for Beyonce, but it was always intended that Beyonce would be the first patient to use it.

Um, yes … while the room is nice (prolly much nicer than most birthing suites in many hospitals around the country/world), I don’t think it looks particularly “baller”. It’s big and roomy, so that’s nice … but I’m not sure I see $1 million dollars worth of luxury in these photos. The furniture looks nice … but not posh. I dunno … maybe the rumors of how much Bey and Jay spent are really incorrect … tho, I guess part of that money went toward the overzealous security staff as well, so … In any event, this is the famed room where the firstborn B-Jay baby was born! Is it everything YOU dreamed it would be?

Looks pretty nice to me! Almost like popping out a baby in a hotel room.

This kind of proves the rumors wrong in a way. They didn’t “buy” a whole floor. It looks like they were in a nice room, that is all.

The head of the hospital said, ““The suggestion that the couple paid $1.3 million to rent an entire maternity floor is simply not true,” he said.

He also denied that any other patients were affected. “No security plan that we or the Carter’s security team put in place would have prevented or delayed families from gaining access to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and to date, no families have complained to the hospital about being denied access to the NICU”.

    • @Krissy — “They didn’t “buy” a whole floor. It looks like they were in a nice room, that is all.” These aren’t all of the photos … but the last photo does show the hallway leading to the suites they overhauled. I think the “bought the whole floor” thing was a bit of an exaggeration but TRUST ME, I’ve had enough experience with overzealous celebrity security (in circumstances far less elaborate than this) to believe that the security detail in place at the hospital very likely infringed on other patients’ movements in/around the hospital. Of course the hospital spokesman is going to paint the hospital in the best light possible.

So not worth all that money. After having my kids, I was too tired to enjoy the surrounding “ambiance” of the hospital room. lol

These pictures just make my stomache turn. It just isn’t right. Healthcare shouldn’t be for sale like this and I don’t care that they can pay for it. It’s just so wrong on so many levels and it kind of makes me lose tons of respect for Beyoncé. She talks the talk but obviously doesn’t walk the walk.
She promotes solidarity and female rights and keeps talking about how she feels obliged – no – destined to be some kind of great rolemodel. What do these pictures tell every girl/woman who ever looked up to her as a source of strength and inspiration. As someone who spoke for them. Quite obviously Beyoncé lives in a whole other world and has nothing in common with any woman she supposedly speaks up for. And how can someone who has no idea of what your world/life is like ever speak for you?
And to promote something so morally unsound for a person who claims to be so morally sound… It’s disheartening.
Yeah sure. The hospital has part of the blame when it comes to proceedings during the birth. But if B-Jay wanted privacy they could have gone to a private practice or “bought” a doctor. They could have chosen a different birthing plan that wasn’t on the cost of others.

It probably seems like I’m making a lot of this. But these pictures make me really mad. Cash and fame shoudldn’t determine what kind of healthcare you get. She doesn’t deserve better treatment than any other woman just because she can sing. If your healthcare quality is defined by what you do I know a ton of women who are so much more deserving…

This is all just so fundamentally wrong and it bums me out that Beyoncé took this turn…

Becca, I totally agree with you. What irks me the most is how they keep harping on about wanting privacy, when Jay-Z has gone a released a song about the baby and featured her on the track.

Becca, if only you were able to afford this you would have though of it completely differently!! and don’t say you wouldn’t cause you just don’t know.

Giving birth is one of the most stressful things a body and mind goes through having a couch where your husband can distress yet still be with you and a tv to get you occupied is nothing extraordinary and there is definitely absolutely NOTHING wrong with it.

No need to be so jealous, be happy for those people and strive towards it yourself.

The suite looks nice but aside from the kitchenette and the posh looking couch and throw pillows…it’s not that different from the delivery room where I had my second child in ’09 – at a hospital in San Francisco where the overwhelming majority of patients are close to poverty level.

Has anyone looked into the possibility of that $1.3 mil being more of a donation to the hospital ear-marked for building a posh maternity suite? The hospital would be very eager to please a big donor…and possibly over zealous with security to avoid offending them.

    • Amanda

I gave birth in both Marin and Santa Rosa, both not far from SF. I was thinking the same thing you said! The chair that was in my room for #2 last year folded out for my hubby, and actually looked much more plush than this couch. I am not rich. I also used to work in the medical field, and it is because of big donations and high paying VIP guests that the hospital can provide care to the hundreds of people who will never pay a bill, or have Medi-Cal who has a reputation for never paying. Except for Derms and Plastic Surgeons, Docs don’t make a ton of money. I made more as an RN than the Psychiatrist did after all of his expenses were paid.

  6. Laura

where the firstborn BJ baby was born… now that’s a room I’d want to see.

  7. Kim

Oh please! The hospital is trying to say they built this for all patients BUT Beyonce just happened to be first one to use it. plleeaaasseee! They obviously paid the hospital to make this room.

  8. I’ve had four kids. When it came down to it, I didn’t give a shit what was in the room, I just wanted to get that baby OUT. lol My husband didn’t have any comfortable sofa to rest on. If I was uncomfortable, so was he! Seriously folks, people are making such a huge deal out of childbirth these days. It’s not a beautiful experience…it’s painful as hell, messy and undignified. If you need pain relief, you take it. No medals given out for being over stoic that’s for sure.
This fancy birthing suite is a ridiculous waste of money for anyone to use. So long as you have the required medical attention, that’s all that matters. Everything else is just superfluous.

  9. Me too Trent. Hopefully it’s just rumour in the Aussie scandal rags.

  10. Sanchez

Still looks like a hospital to me. The thought of giving birth grosses/freaks me out.

  11. H.Kit

They had to rent the floor so the surrogate mother can have a way in and out!! They are not fooling me one bit!

  12. Susanne

    Becca : AMEN!
