Way to go grandmas – another one for us from the granny club! Lily Allen’s mom, Alison Owen, seems to have unofficially leaked the name of Lily’s daughter! And the name is…
ETHEL MARY!
Lily and hubby Sam Cooper married in England in June last year, and their first child, a baby girl, was born in November. We reported then about the excitement of the baby for these two, especially given the fact that they tragically suffered a miscarriage earlier in the year, when their unborn baby boy was miscarried at the late stage of 6 months. I’m sure the happiness the new little princess has brought them over the past few months has eased the massive pain that must have come from their first loss.
But seems proud grandma couldn’t contain her excitement…The Sun reported that Alison, a film producer and Lily’s mom, revealed the baby’s name as Ethel Mary to a friend on Facebook.
Ethel isn’t the most common name anymore, but has an old fashioned vintage feel to it, much like the star in some ways. But little Ethel is sure to be one of the few in her kindergarten class with that name. At least she isn’t going to be teased for being a fruit… Gwyneth? Apple, really?

Poor little thing, what a dreadful name. Ethel is right up there with Gladys, Beryl and Gertie and being terrible old fashioned names which just shouldn’t be recycled. As to celeb baby names, I still love Harlowe Winter Kate.

Not a big fan of the name. However, I am thrilled to hear of her safe arrival, especially in light of Lily’s miscarriage.
