Watch: ‘The Iron Lady’ Releases A Full Length Trailer
"We will stand on principle, or we will not stand at all."

Back in July we got our first teaser look at Meryl Streep in the role of Margaret Thatcher in the upcoming biopic The Iron Lady and today we get to see much more of her in the iconic role. The first full-length trailer for The Iron Lady has been released in the UK and it has made its way to us here on this side of the pond. Click below to check out the trailer in full.

Damn. Looks good. I don’t know that I was expecting the movie to look so … big … so grandios. And how much do I LOVE LOVE LOVE that they used the Madness song Our House in the trailer? Brilliant. Meryl is such an amazing actress. I can see nothing but Margaret Thatcher in this film … Meryl is nowhere to be seen. I mean … this trailer is WOW, ain’t it?

Back in September we got the first movie poster for the film and, to be honest, I didn’t love it. A new poster has been released, which IMHO is a much better poster:

I seems pretty clear to me that Meryl Streep will be making another visit to the Academy Awards next year. My guess is that she might walk away from the Oscars with a very nice little golden statue.

The question is, will it be her or Michelle Williams to take home the gold?

  2. Joanna says:

If this movie is coming out in January of 2012, wouldn’t it be nominated for the 2013 Oscars instead of the 2012 show? All movies nominated as far as I know must have been released by the end of December of the previous year. There is no doubt she will be nominated and that this movie is Academy gold (think a female led version of The King’s Speech) but it won’t be for 2012.

@Joanna — For awards show purposes, films get “released” for qualification in limited release (NYC, LA) before they open wide in national theaters. The same will happen for W.E. That film is being released in limited markets for awards show qualification but won’t hit theaters until January.

You get that Oscar, Meryl! She has Michelle and Glenn for competition… But I don’t see Michelle winning even if she does put on a solid performance. With Michelle, you see Michelle Williams PLAYING Marilyn Monroe, but we’ll have to see, won’t we?

I just don’t see anyone topping Meryl’s performance. She just gives quirks and subtleties that no one can touch. I saw the trailer and thought, “I wonder where she’ll put her new Oscar.”

  4. Krissy says:

There are lots of women who could be nominated this year. Meryl, Glenn, Elizabeth Olsen, Viola Davis, Charlize Theron, Michelle, Felicity Jones, etc….

I think the fun isn’t so much pitting them against one another, rather, I LOVE that there are so many strong performances to watch. I prefer indie/character movies over blockbusters, so this is my absolute favorite time of year for films. There are still something like 5 male roles to every 1 female role in film and TV, so it is nice to see so many strong women representing.

I will definitely be watching this, it looks so good!

Meryl is my favourite actress, by far! She really takes on a character :) As a history nerd, I am SOOO excited for this film:)

  7. Dominic says:
