Actor Zachary Quinto is gay. And it’s no big deal … at all. In a new interview with New York magazine, Zac talks about his recent performance in the play Angels In America and he reveals how important it was for him as a gay may to give his best performance possible. Just like that … no big announcement, no hoopla for media attention, no magazine coverstory. Just in passing, while talking about his work, Quinto casually refers to himself as a “gay man”. And that, my friends, is how it should be done.

Zachary Quinto’s eight-month run in the recent New York stage revival of Angels in America was an eye-opening experience for him. Since the project, the actor, 34 – who had an acclaimed role as Louis Ironson, a man who abandons his AIDS-stricken boyfriend – publicly discusses his much-questioned sexual orientation for the first time. In a new interview in New York, Quinto calls his work in the off-Broadway play the “most challenging thing I’ve ever done as an actor, and the most rewarding.” “At the same time,” he adds, “as a gay man, it made me feel like there’s still so much work to be done, and there’s still so many things that need to be looked at and addressed.” Later in the interview, when the topic changes to legalizing gay marriage and the suicide of bullied gay teen Jamey Rodemeyer, the actor once again refers to himself as a “gay man.” He says that when it comes to the different rights and treatment that come with being homosexual, “there’s a hopelessness that surrounds it.” “Where’s this disparity coming from, and why can’t we as a culture and society dig deeper to examine that?” he says. “We’re terrified of facing ourselves.”
Love this. For years, Zachary has played gay roles but he has never publicly discussed his sexuality … not that he ever needed to. I’ve met the man a few times and he is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I am so impressed with the nonchalant way he went about coming out in the press. Zachary Quinto may have played an evil villain on his hit show Heroes but by coming out in this way, he is surely to be seen as a hero to many people out there who might be inspired by his honesty.

Trent howcome you guys get all the really hot ones and we get Ashton kutcher and Charlie sheen? :(
Haha. Love it!
LOL! This comment wins!
I was just about to say this. :(( I fell in love with his Sylar and Spock.
I adore ZQ! I think he’s incredible at what he does and extremely hot! xD I always suspected it but I’m glad he made it public. I’m happy for him =) And Shannon, my thoughts exactly xD
That is fantastic!! I love how he came out as well. I’ve only seen him in Heroes and Star Wars so I was slightly surprised for that mere reason, but very happy for him.
I believe you mean Star Trek ;) (although that just proves how much of a nerd I am…)
That is what I meant. I apologize to any and all Star fans on both sides. *hangs head* I know better
Always suspected it but glad for him that he put it out there in his own time and in his own way without any hoopla. Now, let’s get back to work.
I see just avrege man.
He’s so adorable. I had a feeling he was of the gay perssuision. I’m glad he felt comfortable enough to be honest about it.
I LOVE HIM. ENDLESSLY.
Trent, he made a post on his Twitter. “My thoughts on the matter” @ZacharyQuinto :)
His statement is SO powerful, and I could not agree with him more. I really wish that other gay celebrities would follow his lead, and realize that coming out actually proves that it does get better. I am grateful that someone who is in a position to change minds is stepping forward, and he did it in the classiest way possible.
Anderson Cooper, honestly, you are riding the train that is the campaign to stop bullying, you cannot ignore the massive elephant in the room any longer.
I KNEW IT!!!
Thank you, Zach!
Once again… NO SURPRISE!!! But its always glad to have examples to look up openly… Hes a hot man… Anderson Cooper, Joe Jonas and Zac Efron… NEXT PLEASE!!! :D
I agree with you, joe jonas has to be next, its so encouraging when other public figures make it seem so easy, just like Zach, casual.
I respect him so much more by NOT making a huge fanfare (and payday) about something so personal. I will always try to support him, just for the way he did this. Great for him. Wish him all the best!
good that he finally came out. It is the most effective and powerful every gay person can do, to fight for equal rights for all. And the more famous people who do it. The easyer it will get for the next guy, and the message is better received for each year that passes. progress!
In a sense he was lucky, he didn`t have various bloggers get after him in a witch hunt (for a long time), like others before him had to undergo.
Duh! its great that he finally came out especially during NCO!
Sorry, but he is one of the biggests assholes I have come across with. He must have a temper of a 2 year old. I saw him once go ape shit on a pre-teen on the streets of NYC for no reason. The kid didn’t even know who he was. Primadonna.
I saw him out and about here in LA, and he couldn’t have been more friendly. I was lamenting the fact that I did not have my camera, because I would love a photo of him pretending to eat my son’s brains (if you didn’t watch Heroes, don’t ask), and he was funny and pretty self deprecating, which I always appreciate.
Point is, anyone can have a bad day.
UM… DUH No Big Deal!!
Did NOBODY watch the Tori Spelling Tv Series on VH1???
Hes been out for a while, this shouldnt be news. I thought it was very OBVIOUS in her Reality Series!!!
If anyone has it they should let me know where to find it!! But hes totally been out for AWHILE!!!
