‘The Hunger Games’ Releases A Set Of Character Posters
OMFG!

AHHHHH! Late yesterday afternoon a series of AMAZINGLY COOL character movie posters were unleashed to promote next year’s release of the film version of The Hunger Games. The posters started showing up all over the place at around the same time, combining to form a collection of simple yet stunning promo images. Naturally, the 3 lead characters — Katniss, Gale and Peeta — are represented but so, too, are the adult characters Haymitch, Effie and Cinna as well as the tribute characters Rue and Cato. The posters RULE, y’all. Check ‘em out below.

I mean … are you kidding me? I LOVE these posters. They are so simple and yet so striking. I love that the characters are featured in profile … especially Effie Trinkett. Her poster is the most interesting, I think:

I knew that Cinna would look hot but I did not expect Haymitch to look so hot, too. Hello, it’s Woody Harrelson!! Next up, sweet Rue and sinister Cato:

I am LOVING the HELL out of all of these posters. I kinda wish we would’ve gotten a poster of Katniss‘s little sister Prim, too … but I am NOT complaining. These are so fantastic. I have to say to the Hunger Games promo department, JOB WELL DONE! With the mere release of these images, I am all excited about the Hunger Games movie again! March 23, y’all … I cannot wait for March 23!!

So … which poster is your fave?

Haymitch’s look threw me off. I can’t imagine anyone pictured him looking like that. Of all the characters, he’s the one I’m most interested to see on film. No doubt Woody’s gonna be fantastic.

    • Trent Trent says:

@Velaine — I agree, they deffo decided to change Haymitch a bit for the movie version. He will likely act the same as he does in the books but yeah, no way he’s supposed to look this good.

      • Amy says:

I very recently read these books, after hearing so much on this site! I was so excited to view the previous trailer, only to realize it didn’t show much. This is a great teaser…but I’m dying to see more!! When do you think we’ll see a real trailer with more substance?

    • Katie says:

Not the way I would have pictured Haymitch either. I wonder if this is supposed to be the way The Capitol would present them. It would be cool if they also did a series of more rugged games style posters too.

      • Rachael says:

Yeah that would be awesome if they did the “more rugged games style” posters. This is not how I pictured Haymitch either, but I don’t care that much about the physical look for him, I care way more about the the way Woody plays it, and I think he is PERFECT for the role. So I’m sure it’ll be awesome.

  2. Christie says:

Rue. It almost looks like she is standing the way it is described in the books. On her toes, leaning slightly forward.

    • JCZ says:

      Rue :’(
Anyone who didn’t gasp and tear up can see where the door is.

From memory, I’m glad race wasn’t mentioned or brought up in the books. Please correct me if I’m wrong with that though – the reason I prefer that is because I believe the world has finally moved past that card and the Districts are just one to the Capitol, no matter what colour or sex.

I never imagined Rue to be black in the books – I think because I always compared her to Prim, much like Katniss. I imagined her to be somewhere like a Chloe Moretz, maybe a little younger looking, like a little sister – she might not be the best example, you can’t look at her the same after Kick Ass.

More Effie or Capital folks really – I’m intrigued to see how Cinna’s crew appear. My imagination runs wild when reading about them in the books. However with Effie I imagined her to be more in vein of Rita Skeeter from Harry Potter, but I have faith in Liz pulling it off.

      • cmc cmc says:

Actually, Katniss did note that Rue and Thresh were both dark-skinned. And I believe she mentioned it on her visit to District 11, too.

This is exactly what I pictured her as. I’ll be really sad to watch that storyline play out.

      • Trent Trent says:

@cmc — Correct. Altho race was not mentioned specifically, it seemed clear to me that Rue and Thresh were not White based on their “dark-skinned” descriptions.

      • Jackie says:

Rue is exactly how I pictured her. I had her & Thresh as black in my mind. I already started tearing up just looking at the poster.

I also had Effie looking like Rita Skeeter too! :)

    • sars says:

OMG! Rue is too freaking cute looking! I’m gonna be bawling when the movie comes out! Maybe they can change the storyline just a little to keep me from making a fool out of myself?

  3. Heather says:

Ack, I can’t decide! I am just as excited as you are! Can’t wait to see this film.

  4. Stefanie says:

I’m the most interested by Effie’s…. I want to see more Capitol folk now….hello, Ceasar? Haymitch threw me off, bc wasn’t he supposed to look ”Seam-ish”? But maybe he’s under pressure by the Capitol to at least look presentable? Someone else brought up how Rue is the only one looking down, while Katniss is set apart by facing the other direction…… I love these. WTG, Lionsgate.

  5. Jill says:

I think Elisabeth Banks will be great as Effie, but I think Kristen Chenoweth would have been a better choice. She’s so spunky and energetic and talks non-stop and that’s how I pictured Effie.

  6. sarahhh says:

AH! i just screamed! can’t decide which one i like the best.. sooo good. i agree Trent, would of loved to see Prim!!

  7. Natalie says:

see, this is the way posters should be done, Twilight people!

  8. Claire says:

I think my heart stopped when these started popping up all over last night! They are perfect! I love them all! I feel like since so many popped up randomly and one included Cato that there still might be more on our way of Prim, Snow, etc.

Buttercup should probably get a poster as well. >:) Haha.

  9. WickedSandwich says:

I love the fact that Katniss is facing all of them…very subtle marketing dept…I love them all !

  10. Jen says:

I go to school with the actor who plays Cato (Alexander Ludwig)and have class with him and I am just soooo weirded out seeing him on the poster. He’s a little bit full of himself so I just love seeing him get more arrogant as more promo comes out

    • Rachael says:

HA! That is funny. Are you guys in high school or college? I’m not sure how old he is. Please keep us updated with his arrogance level as it gets closer to the movie release, LOL!

  11. Rachael says:

I saw these yesterday morning and about flipped out … I’m with you guys … I think they are awesome!!!! Definitely a great job by the promo/marketing peeps working for Lionsgate on this film. Effie is the most interesting since she is the most “flamboyantly” costumed, but I think Rue’s poster might be the most striking, the way she is looking down. And I also was wondering where the Prim poster is! :)

  12. Oooh Effie looks so colorful makeup wise and clothing! Aaaaah! Cant wait for this!!!!!!!!

  13. Meagan says:

    Helloooo, Gale.

  14. CHASE says:

The guy they picked for Cato is NOT convincing! He looks like a little tween. I’m loving the other pictures but Peeta’s hair looks, well, icky.

  15. Joey says:

When I read the books, i couldn’t help but imagining Haymitch as the guy who played “Mad-Eye Moody” in the Harry Potter Films. Sadly, this pic of Woody makes me think the character is going to be wildly different

    • Britgirlatheart Britgirlatheart says:

I completely agree…Mad-Eye Moody stuck out in my mind too. I do like Woody with the long hair but he is certainly not what I envisioned when I read the books. I hope for the integrity of the books that he remains the same personality-wise.

  16. Dana says:

Josh Hutcherson is going to be the perfect “PEETA”!!! He is such a cutie and such an intellegent person!
