Coroner Rules That Amy Winehouse’s Cause Of Death Was Alcohol-Related
"Death by Misadventure"

In late July, as you may recall, the troubled singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her own home at the young age of 27 years old. At the time, much speculation insisted that Amy‘s death was the result of a drug overdose … but her parents were adamant that it wasn’t drugs that killed their daughter, they insisted that she drank herself to death. Today we learn conclusively that her parents were correct. The coroner who handled Amy‘s sudden death has ruled officially that she died as a result of death by misadventure after she drank 5 times the legal alcohol limit.

A coroner says Amy Winehouse died as the unintended consequence of drinking too much alcohol. Coroner Suzanne Greenaway gave a verdict of “death by misadventure,” saying the singer had voluntarily consumed alcohol and risked the consequences. The singer, who had fought drug and alcohol problems for years, was found dead in bed at her London home on July 23 at age 27. A pathologist told the singer’s inquest Wednesday that Winehouse had consumed a “very large quantity of alcohol” and was more than five times over the legal drunk-driving limit when she died.

While this ruling may come as no big surprise to some, I think it’s important to pass along the final ruling in Amy‘s death. There’s been so much talk as to what caused Amy‘s sudden death and now we know for sure. While I’m certain that this ruling — confirming Amy’s parents’ belief that it was alcohol and not drugs that killed her — will come as little comfort to them, here’s hoping the Winehouse family can finally put the matter to rest so that Amy can finally rest in peace.

Still so sad. I wonder if these celebs with addiction problems know that people are pulling for them to straighten up. Amy, Lindsay and so many others get caught up in their addictions and have had such promising futures. It’s so sad.

    Rest in peace Amy.

I thought her parents had told the public that she was sober at the time, and hadn’t drank or done drugs in a while. Maybe I’m mistaken though.

That’s why I remembered. It was even claimed that it was lack of alcohol that caused it. But my memory isn’t the best.

I agree, I think her father said that he thought that quitting drinking cold turkey might have killed her. I will never fault a grieving parent for what comes out of their mouth, however.

It is good that the truth is finally out there, but what a sad thing it is.

I heard both reports, that her father said she had tried to quit cold turkey then several days later he changed it to she drank herself to death. They probably learned more as the days passed and just changed the story :(. Still sad though.

Pretty sure that her father said that she was going through alcohol withdrawl and being sober is what killed her. Oh well, now they know the truth. Very sad.

Unfortunately people don’t realise that booze is a drug too. Catches up with you in the end too. :(
    Rest in peace Amy.

It’s tragic because it *seemed* like she had pulled herself together and gotten over her addictions. She looked great in her latest photos. Too bad she didn’t give up the alcohol.

It is all so sad… addiction is such a relentless fight, and it is sad that she is gone at such a young age.

    Such unbelievable talent.

    :(
