Watch: Taylor Swift Covers Eminem & Uncle Kracker
Ode to Hometown Boys

Country star Taylor Swift, currently on tour across North America, has devoted a portion of her show to performing songs by artists in the city/state/province at each concert stop. In Grand Rapids, MI (a few hours outside of Detroit) this week Taylor performed her version of Eminem‘s Lose Yourself that segued into Uncle Kracker‘s Smile. To be honest, she did a pretty kickass job with both songs. Check out video of Taylor‘s performance below.

Taylor Swift, who’s always kinda shocked about something, now takes pride in causing her fans to make the Surprised Face.
And she’s been extremely successful at achieving that during her Speak Now tour by covering hometown artists from each stop. In Toronto, she played a Canadian medley that included Justin Bieber’s “Baby,” Alanis Morissette’s “You Learn,” and Tal Bachman’s “She’s So High” … In Newark, New Jersey … it was Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On a Prayer” and Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark.” And just last Wednesday, she performed Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” for Grand Rapids, Michigan, segueing into a cover of Uncle Kracker’s “Smile.” We don’t know what we like more about this clip, that Taylor’s so gratified by shouting “Yo!” or that billions of preteen girls know every single word to an Uncle Kracker song.

Let me tell you something … I may not be at all a Taylor Swift fan but she has impressed the HELL out of me with this performance. It is not easy to learn a new song for every tourstop but the fact that she’s been learning a few new songs … damn, that’s impressive. I also love how she’s not doing straight covers … she is giving each song her own personal spin. Even tho I’m not a huge fan of Taylor‘s Country songs, I am now a big fan of her musicianship. Taylor, you done good girl. Thumbs way up!

I just adore her so much! She is always full of surprises. I think both covers were very well done and very fun!

Anyone who says she isn’t talented… needs a punch in the nuts or face or something. And I am not a big fan it’s just you can’t deny she has a little something something special.

I am a big fan of her music but not as much her shows, as they tend to border on the cheesy side (given, she does have a lot of very young fans and serves as a great role model to them). But this was my fave part of the whole show! She sang Avril Lavigne, Justin Bieber and Nelly Furtado at the show I was at in Toronto. She killed it!

I posted the link on the tori post about her cover, too. But here it is for anyone else looking!

0:57 seconds in the video, she starts A Sorta Fairytale (by Tori Amos). Turns out it was just a quick part of the song, not a complete cover. But cute nonetheless!

it’s a shame that when she comes to toronto, she can’t find a single artist from toronto to cover. beiber is from stratford (2 hours away), alanis is from ottawa (5 hours away) and bachman is from winnipeg (27 hours drive away from toronto). a little research would have pulled artists like k-os, drake, the barenaked ladies, metric, death from above 1979, mstrkrft, steppenwolf and rush, amongst others. so, thanks for barely trying. being from toronto vs. being from winnipeg is like new york vs. albuquerque.
