Last week we got our first look at Henry Cavill in costume as the new Superman as he will look in the upcoming reboot film Man of Steel. Today, despite the fact that the film will not be released until Summer of 2013, we get to see the first photos from the set of the film. As you may recall, Superman was smashing a steel safe in the first promo photo we saw last week … well, that safe and other smashed props have popped up on set. Check out the photos below.

Directed Zack Snyder (Sucker Punch, 300), produced by Christopher Nolan (Inception, The Dark Knight), Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner Russell Crowe, Christopher Meloni and Antje Traue. The film also stars three-time Oscar® nominee Amy Adams (The Fighter) as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Oscar® nominee Laurence Fishburne (What’s Love Got to Do with It) as her editor-in-chief, Perry White. Starring as Clark Kent’s adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Oscar® nominee Diane Lane (Unfaithful) and Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner (Dances with Wolves). Squaring off against the superhero are two other surviving Kryptonians, the villainous General Zod, played by Oscar® nominee Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road), and Faora, Zod’s evil partner, played by Antje Traue. Also from Superman’s native Krypton are Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s mother, played by Julia Ormond, and Superman’s father, Jor-El, portrayed by Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator). Rounding out the cast are Harry Lennix as U.S. military man General Swanwick, as well as Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy. Man of Steel is being produced by Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay was written by David S. Goyer, from a story by Goyer and Nolan, based upon Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster and published by DC Comics. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.
It’s unknown at this point whether the damage featured in these photos is due to Superman‘s super strength, the super strength of the film’s villains or something as simple as a tornado (which are prevalent in Clark Kent‘s hometown of Smallville). I think it’s way too early to know too much about the film … but still, these photos are kinda cool. It looks like in between enjoying photos and video from the Batman: The Dark Knight Rises film set we can look for photos from the Superman: Man of Steel set. So much superhero fun …. can’t wait to see more.
