Yesterday, we got our first look at actress Anne Hathaway in costume as Catwoman as she will appear in the upcoming Christopher Nolan-directed sequel film Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. Based on that first look, many folks (me included) had many things to say about this new incarnation of the iconic character. Today, we get our first look at Anne in costume as Selina Kyle (Catwoman‘s secret identity) as she films scenes for TDKR in Pittsburgh, PA. While Catwoman was leather-clad in black, Selina — naturally — makes her first on set appearance in all white. Additionally, Warner Bros. has released a second official promo photo of the new Catwoman. Check out all the photos below.
This week, fans got their first glimpse of Anne Hathaway in her sexy all-in-one leather Catwoman outfit. But the star looked very different today as she ditched the leather for a more feminine look as she filmed another scene for the new Batman movie. The 28-year-old actress sported a calf length floaty white dress and turquoise necklace with her hair down in Pittsburgh. The star also held a book under one arm, looking a far cry from the earlier photograph which showed her as the infamous superhero. Little is known about the storyline for the film, which again stars Christian Bale as the caped crusader. The film will also star Joseph Gordon Levitt, Liam Neeson and Marion Cotillard. The actress, who follows both Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, is said to have been putting in some intense preparation for the role. A source told the Mail: ‘Anne is working out five days a week. She’s taking it very seriously and wants her body in tip-top condition. Secretly she hopes to upstage Halle Berry, who last played Catwoman. She’s doing dance classes, weight-training and cardio – she wants to be the sexiest Catwoman ever.’
Yeah, I dunno about this “secret” quest for Anne to become the “sexiest Catwoman ever”. Some people just exude sexiness without even trying — a central characteristic of the Catwoman character herself — and, IMHO, Anne doesn’t have that characteristic. I’m hoping she will prove me wrong but … I just don’t see it yet. I’m also really HOPING that the Catwoman costume presented here really will turn out to be an early, protoversion of the final costume. I’m even more concerned now because we’ve been given 2 official photos of Anne in this Catwoman costume … which has me fearing that this is really the Catwoman we’re going to get in The Dark Knight Rises. All the drama whipped up yesterday by the release of the first Catwoman photo reminds me of the Wonder Woman debacle that went down back in March when the first photo was released of Adrianne Palicki in the new WW costume. IMHO, the strong backlash to the WW photo played a huge part in the TV show not getting picked up by NBC. We’ll have to wait and see what effect, if any, fan reaction to the Catwoman photo will have on the film. I’m still not buying Anne Hathaway as Catwoman … not by a longshot.

What were you expecting? She was hardly going to have ears, whiskers and a tail. Catwoman is a thief and Hathaway’s portrayal is presented as such. A strong, stealthy woman with a penchant for kitties and jewels.
@Jonathan Day — Well, I personally was expecting a representation of the character that has been in existence for decades … which, in many instances, does include ears, whiskers and a tail. I think it’s a bit much to say that Anne is, at this point, presenting “a strong, stealthy woman”. All I see at this point is a woman presenting a pleather bodysuit and funny glasses that don’t do much to hide her identity. Time will tell.
@Trent – I agree Trent that it’s a little disconcerting to see such a different take on the character, especially as I think we all immediately conjure up images of Tim Burton’s Catwoman. But that Selina Kyle existed in a more surreal world than Nolan’s. Based on the look and feel of the last two movies, I think he’s earned the benefit of the doubt on the direction the final movie is going to take. Plus, we don’t know yet at what point in time we’re going to be introduced to Kyle; this costume may only be one step in her evolution from cat burglar to Catwoman.
She wants to be the sexiest Catwoman ever? With this costume (coupled with the fact that she has no sex appeal what so ever), she’s going to be the STUPIDEST Catwoman ever =S!
I get more of a “Bat Girl” vibe than “Catwoman” from the costume. Maybe it’s the glasses?*
False alarm. This second “official photo” is a fake. So at least there aren’t TWO official photos of her in this costume.

As Anne proved in ‘Love and Other Drugs’, she doesnt do sexy well. It comes accross as forced and unnatural. This isnt a dig at her physical appearence, the girl is adorable. But thats just it, Anne is adorable and happy-go-lucky, the opposite of Catwoman’s sleek mysterious aura. I’m a huge fan of Nolan’s previous two Batman films, but this casting feels so out of place. Maybe she’ll prove me wrong, I’m definitely rooting for her, but these photos do nothing to inspire confidence.

Hate being the wet blanket here, but why is it most people seem to get all hot an bothered with the female character portrayals over the men?
While I agree that Anne looks terrible as Catwoman/Selina Kyle, I’m curious why there seems to be a more vocal disapproval with female comic costuming.
Aside from the Catwoman news we’re currently getting, there was Adrianne Palicki’s WW, Halle Berry’s Catwoman, even Alicia Silverstone’s Batgirl.

I will say, tho, that in response to your WW point … the first new costume we were shown was shit, no question. But they did change the costume by making changes suggested by fans and the consensus was that it was a huge improvement. Had the show gone to air, I think the amended costume would’ve been a big hit.
Blech. This is the first I’ve heard of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. I definitely have yet to be convinced. It feels like trying to stuff Eartha Kitt into a Doris Day movie.
Also, how many pleathers had to die for her lacklustre costume?
Minus the goggles, I don’t mind the costume. As far as Anne goes, I’ll reserve my opinion until I see video.

This is getting out of hand. I know it’s hard not to judge because it’s so early, but, I mean, Anne Hathaway is gorgeous. Anne Hathaway is an Academy nominated actress. Christopher Nolan is a genius and he KNOWS what he’s doing. Most people freaked out when Heath was going to be The Joker but he turned out to be brilliant. Give Nolan some faith, folks!

she’s just not that type of an actress….. i so dont see her as a sexy catwoman… i mean she was playing a princess and a bride…. nothing sexy in my opinion…. very odd chose of an actress…. and as Trent said, some actressess like Angelina Jolie for example exude sexiness without even trying… so im not sure its the right role for her… at all
Pretty sure the pics of Anne in white are not costumed shots. The movie takes place during winter (note the white fluffy stuff on the steps). This is most likely Anne in her own Summer-y clothes. As for her performance as Catwoman, I’m not going to judge until we see the final product.
