Movie Review: ‘Horrible Bosses’
The TV Guide

David and I had a free night last night and we decided to go to the movies. It was his turn to pick so he chose Horrible Bosses. To be honest, I had heard mixed things about the movie … some of my friends loved it, others notsomuch. David and I were both really curious so we were excited to see it for ourselves. While I didn’t love the movie (by any stretch of the imagination), I also didn’t hate it entirely. Despite the problems I found with the movie, I found myself laughing more times than I expected so … I guess it wasn’t so bad.

The film’s biggest problem, IMHO, is how “paint by numbers” it feels. Once you get the gist of the film in the beginning, everything happens pretty much EXACTLY the way you expect. There are no twists, no surprises … it’s very predicable. I found Jennifer Aniston the most entertaining person in Horrible Bosses. I know, surprised me, too. She’s really very naughty in this film … and, therefore, very funny. I don’t think she’s ever looked hotter in any other film. The 3 lead actors — Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day — are fine but not great. IMHO, the writing could’ve been better and Day‘s character could’ve been less annoying. I started out liking Charlie Day‘s character but as the movie progressed, he became more and more annoying … in a Gilligan from Gilligan’s Island sort of way. That being said … I did keep laughing from time to time so I guess I couldn’t say I hated the film. In the end, Horrible Bosses can be a fun … if you let it.

Totally agree! Thought that his character was going to be break out funny, ala Melissa McCarthy in Bridesmaids, but then he just got over the top annoying. I really wanted to like this movie as a whole, but , Jennifer Aniston really was the only thing worth watching in that movie IMO

I kind of disagree with you. This movie is tremendously funny. Yes, the main trio could have been better, but it was mostly improvised since the director encouraged it which could have been a problem since they left the script on the sidelines. Who knows. Jennifer Aniston looked PHENOMENAL and she stole the show for me. I wish there was more of her. I think the movie was really funny and yes, Charlie Day and his voice can be irritating. All in all, I think this movie is funnier than Bridesmaids but it’s a stiff competition.

I thought this movie was funny over all!! I either was laughing or was just staring at the screen blank faced. JEN really stole this movie!!

I didn’t find this movie as hilarious as people/critics were making it out to be. Charlie’s character was annoying with the exception of the coke incident. I couldn’t stand his voice. I laughed more when I watched Bridesmaids.

This would be one of the few times I disagree with you Trent. My friends and I, along with a packed theater, didn’t stop laughing during the entire film. I agree with Chase in that there should have been a LOT more of Jennifer. She was awesome!!! 2 BIG thumbs up for me :-)

I laughed out loud because in my head I said, “Really?” about Jen, and then you wrote, “I know, surprised me too.” Hee hee. I am excited to see it. I like her look in the film, from what I’ve seen from previews.
Are you sick of Jason Bateman yet? I kind of am. Is he the same character as always in this one? It seems like he’s pegged to play the same role or maybe he is limited in his abilities. Funny, loveable guy- but I just can’t take anymore of the same type of acting from him!

I AGREE! It was funny at times…JEN WAS HILARIOUS!

I have to say that this movie was awesome!! I really thought it was better than: friends with benefits (I really hate Justin Timberlake), bridesmaids, and bad teacher!! This is by far my favourite comedy of the summer, and yes Jennifer Aniston kicked major ass in this film!!
