On Monday we learned the tragic news that Jackass star Ryan Dunn and a friend were killed in a fiery car accident that was seemingly caused by drunk driving and excessive speed. Yesterday, police confirmed that Dunn was more than 2 times over the drunk driving limit and that his car was traveling in excess of 130 mph when it exploded on impact. Today we get to see photos of Dunn‘s family and friends as they convened at a funeral home in West Chester in Philadelphia yesterday to privately memorialize their late friend before his funeral takes place later in the week.

A private memorial service was held today for Jackass star Ryan Dunn, who was killed in a high-speed car crash in the early hours of Monday morning. Jackass frontman Johnny Knoxville led the mourners as a private ceremony was held at a funeral home in West Chester in Philadelphia on Wednesday afternoon. Dunn’s best friend and fellow Jackass star Bam Margera was in attendance with his wife Melissa Rothstein and parents April and Phil, who were also close to Dunn. The memorial took place on a painful day for the 34-year-old stuntman’s loved ones after toxicology reports confirmed that he was more than twice over the drink-drive limit when he crashed, killing himself and passenger Zachary Hartwell. The memorial was held at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith and Boyd funeral home and comes ahead of a full funeral, which is set to be held later this week … Funeral director Joseph DellaVecchia told CNN today that he didn’t expect any disturbances at the memorial- but admitted he had heard of Westboro’s plans. He told CNN: ‘We can’t stop someone from coming to a public funeral, but this is private, and the police have everything under control.’ Police revealed yesterday that Dunn’s blood alcohol level was 0.196, more than twice the legal limit in Pennsylvania, which is 0.08, at the time of the crash. West Goshen Police Chief Michael Carroll added that the toxicology report from the Chester County Coroner’s Office indicated there were ‘no drugs of abuse detected’. Dunn, 34, had been in a bar with friends in the hours before the crash. He is said to have drunk three beers and taken shots before getting behind the wheel shortly after 2am on Monday morning. Police said he was driving at around 132mph and 140mph in a 55mph zone when his Porsche 911 flew off the road and burst into flames … It has emerged that Dunn had notched up 23 driving convictions, including ten for speeding, before his accident. Dunn had also been arrested for drink driving.
Very unfortunately, Ryan Dunn‘s proclivity for dangerous driving was well known among his friends … most particularly by his best friend and Jackass co-star Bam Margera and his mother April. TMZ has video of the Margeras giving an interview a few years ago where they predicited that Dunn would eventually be killed in a car accident. Bam even said that he had Ryan “in the death pool for death by vehicle”:

Five years before Ryan Dunn was killed in a violent car crash, Bam Margera predicted the “Jackass” star’s death in eerily specific detail — claiming, “He’s gonna eat it one of these times [in a car accident].” Bam — along with several cast members from his MTV show “Viva La Bam” — made the grim prediction while recording the DVD commentary for Season 5 back in 2006. According to the commentary, Dunn was involved in SEVERAL car accidents over the years — but Bam’s mom claimed, “He’ll never learn his lesson.” Another “Bam” cast member added, “I have [Ryan] in the death pool … for death by vehicle.” In this specific episode, Ryan races Bam’s Lamborghini in a limousine — and after Ryan loses, Bam claims, “[the limo] blew up just like every other fucking car he has.”
Yeah, no big surprises here, unfortunately. In less morbid Dunn news, another Jackass star — Jason Wee-Man Acuna — is paying home to his late friend in his own way. Wee-Man posted video of a new tribute tattoo that he got done this week, which you can watch in full below:
What a nice way for Wee-Man to honor and remember his friend. Again, altho the way that Ryan Dunn died is really no surprise to anyone who knew him, apparently, the manner in which he met his violent end is still very, very tragic. If anything good can come from this tragedy, it’s that Jackass fans (and others) will learn that drunk driving can have very serious, very sad and very tragic consequences.

This is really tragic to look at…yes I know he drove drunk, and that’s such a pathetic thing to do. But, a loss of a loved one is never easy.
BTW – seriously – I can’t stand the Westboro Baptist church people… Do they have nothing better to do than protest funerals?! Are the also going to protest Ryan Dunn’s passenger, Zach Hartwell’s funeral? Zach was an Iraq War vet and protesting that seems pathetic to me as well.
Suzie B., apparently you are unfamiliar with how the hatemongers at Westboro Baptist Church operate. Soldiers’ funerals are their favorites to protest at unfortunately. If I remember correctly, there was talk of them protesting the funeral of the little girl who was killed in the attack on Rep. Gabbie Giffords in AZ. I didn’t follow up on it but hopefully that never came to pass.
Uggh I forgot about that. Jeeeezus that “church” is pathetic.
MTV needs to get all the JackAsses and get a PSA out there stat on the obvs dangers of driving drunk. What a sad sad week…
Agreed!
Double agree! Bam seems to be the one taking this the hardest, I think he could really benefit from doing something like that. It might help him find some peace to try and help others so that they don’t end up like his friend.
Like I said before the bastard is lucky he didn’t kill anyone on the road. The world is a better place with him gone.
CRY ME A RIVER, right?
I agree, it’s hard for me to feel sorry for him.
Wow, a lil’ harsh don’t ya think? How can you wish death upon anyone? I agree he is lucky he didn’t kill anyone on the road but he did kill his passenger. He chose to drive drunk and no one stopped him. However, I don’t think that makes a comment like yours acceptable.
@Ashley – the thing makes them acceptable (atleast IMO) is the fact that this wasnt a first time thing, hes had plenty of DUI’s & driving convictions. something like this was going, it was just a matter of when.
was going to happen*
@nicole What I don’t think is acceptable to say is that the world is a better place without him. I agree that his past behavior makes the incident a more “we knew this was going to happen” incident. The situation is tragic (regardless it is his fault) for his family as well as his passenger’s and to say the world is a better place without him is not something grieving family and friends want to read.
Boo hoo boo hoo, if wee-man really wanted to honor his friend, he should make a PSA now! I mean really, it’s so embarrassing to have your death predicted and it shows that he would never have changed and it was just a matter of time. I will never say good riddance, but I will say better him than an innocent.
While I am disappointed that Ryan Dunn died from not only going over the speed limit, but also driving drunk, I will not say ‘Oh well who cares he brought it upon himself-the world is a better place without him, etc’ because I don’t see the point of being so negative. I do understand this is a very negative situation to begin with, and I understand that many can be/are frustrated by such an event.
It’s tragic that he died, it’s tragic that another was killed because of bad judgement, I’m sure both friends and families are in a lot of pain because of the lives being taken so young- but I do hope Ryan Dunn’s friends, especially those that are publicly recognized, take this as an opportunity to express how drunk driving, and speeding, can hurt not only those involved directly-but also those involved through knowing the people and could also harm innocent lives and effect other families/friends- Basically that drunk driving can effect everyone.
That in no circumstances is it ever okay to drive drunk, not even when one has only had ‘a few drinks’ and that if one wants to drink and have fun-do it at home or plan ahead to where there is no need to get into a car and drive to return home. That if one sees another that is drunk, friend or not, to call them a cab or some form of public transportation to get them home. This will not only get them home safely, but it will also keep others safe.
I’m sure they won’t do this immediately, they will need time to mourn, but I do hope that they take this as an opportunity to educate and protect others-especially since some that are connected to this event, this person, are publicly recognized and are influential to their young fans.
Amen.
I agree with a lot of the posters that a PSA would be a fitting tribute to Ryan Dunn. I know the grief is still raw, but maybe that would make it all the more poignant.
Poor bastards. Drinking and driving is so fucked up, especially when it ends as horrifically as it did for these two men.
how dare anyone speak ill of a dead man they never knew and say the world is a better place without them? Dunn brought joy to many people’s lives including my own. he was a friend and a great shoulder to cry on.. he may have had his downfalls but NO ONE is perfect. so before you go and saw hateful things about people you didnt know, think about how it effects those who lost a loved one
I completely agree. It isn’t even our place to judge Dunn, no matter the circumstances! He made some bad decisions, we all do, but that doesn’t make him a bad person! We are supposed to love one another and not be judgmental, and to sit back and say the world is better without him isnt fair…we lost another person too soon because he made a stupid mistake. I hope that he can rest in peace and that all his friends and family will be okay and remember him in a positive light, and not let the circumstances around his death, and the negative comments made about Ryan delay their healing.
say*
I think driving drunk is one of the worst decisions people can make in their life. I am glad there were no other vehicles involved in this crash. That being said, saying the world is a better place without someone (no matter who it is) is a really terrible thing to say. I wouldn’t wish death on anyone no matter what they have done in this world. Only God should be able to judge someone, no one else knows the whole story.
The bottom line is, no matter what people think about Ryan Dunn or the decisions he made, he is dead and can’t hear or read their comments.
The only people related that can hear or read this stuff are the families and friends affected by this tragedy, and my guess is it only multiplies their pain when they see people say hurtful things.
I wish people would bear that in mind. People are grieving; don’t make this time worse.
@Stanley – PREACH!
I second that..PREACH!
Totally agree with Stanley.
West Chester, Pa is not a part of Philadelphia at all.
@Eric – haven’t you realized yet that basically anything that happens in the Philly area they classify as Philly? Doesn’t matter if it’s SJ, or Mainline or Delco etc. – It’s all Philly for better or worse! LOL
& @Stanley – very very well stated! THANK YOU!!
All you stupid people on here talking shit about Dunn and drunk driving, acting like you guys are perfect and haven’t done anything stupid!I guarentee all of you on here have run a red light…that can kill someone just as easily! So shut your damn mouths until you can say you are perfect!
