A new report out today claims that MTV is planning to hire an entirely new cast of people to star in their hit reality TV series Jersey Shore once the upcoming 5th season of the show finishes taping. On the contrary, another report claims that MTV is planning to do so such thing. In just a few short weeks, the 4th season of Jersey Shore — which was filmed entirely in Florence, Italy — will air on MTV and the 5th season of the series will begin filming in New Jersey next week … so new cast or not, there is still a lot of Snooki, JWoww and The Situation to come.
Say goodbye to Seaside, Snooki! Jersey Shore producers plan to recast the MTV hit, an insider tells the new issue of Us Weekly (out now). “After this group comes back from Italy and shoots season 5 this summer, that will be the end for them.” The new stars will be “a lot cheaper” (the housemates each reportedly make $100,000 per episode), plus the current gang can feel free to pursue other endeavors. Says the source, “They will leave on a high note!” After all, three of the show’s original cast members — Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Jenni “J-Woww” Farley and Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio — have already signed up for spinoffs.
Not so fast, says The Hollywood Reporter … according to them, MTV is not planning to recast the show:
MTV is denying multiple online reports that they will re-cast Jersey Shore. “We love the present cast, and their summer adventures have just begun. We currently have no plans to recast the show,” a net spokesperson tells The Hollywood Reporter. Both UsMagazine.com and TMZ.com have sources saying that Snooki, The Situation and crew cost MTV too much — at a reported $100,000 an episode — and will get the boot after season 5 wraps in Italy. They are already due to begin filming the next season in New Jersey right after Italy … Chris Linn, MTV’s executive vice president of programming and head of production, told THR earlier this year that he doesn’t think the [spinoff] shows will dilute the popular franchise. “I have to say, again, they feel very different from Jersey Shore and each of these cast members has so much more depth and different sides and layers to them than you see on Jersey Shore,” he said. “I think it allows us to expand out from the base of Jersey Shore without taking away from what Jersey Shore is. They would continue to be involved in any potential future cycles of Jersey Shore. That’s really a different experience because they’re on vacation and it’s a group dynamic.
The curious wording of the MTV statement seems suspicious to me … they “currently have no plans” to recast the show … but that doesn’t meant that they won’t have plans to recast the show once the upcoming 5th season is filmed. I honestly thought that MTV was going to cycle out this cast last year but they seem really attached to this group of characters. IMHO, a fresh new cast sounds very appealing … but it could go either way. What do y’all think? Do you want MTV to stick with the original JS cast or are you ready for a new batch of guidos and guidettes to take center stage?
I hope they replace all of them and then give Snookie and Jwow their own show.
from what i understand, they do have thier own show coming. and i think i read that pauly has his own on the way too.
they would be better off with ditching the show instead of replacing them. after this long, a new cast wouldnt be the same.
I think as long as they don’t try to recast the same characters, it could be fun. It would be easy to cast the next Snooki, but they need new original character to keep the show fresh.
I wish my dream of this showing never coming back would come true, but alas it is not.

My boyfriend was in Florence, Italy at the same time they were, and based on what he said taping did not go well there. He said bars had strict instructions to not serve them alcohol (whether this was abided by is hard to say). Also, he said he and some of his friends (all Americans) were asked by producers to appear on the show in the pizza shop that they are working in this coming season because few actual Italians wanted to participate in the show and support the restaurant they were working. What a mess… MTV would be smart to start fresh.
I really love jersey shore. I’ve met the cast, I have met the shore store owner Danny, also now Pauly D has his own store “Dirty Cotoure shore store” on the boardwalk in seaside heights. Now I wouldn’t mind the same cast coming back, but just saying if they were to re cast the whole crew they need to mix it up. I think having different race in the house would spice it up even more then having 8 people of the same race and that live the same lifestyle. Yeah from day 1 of season 1 until end of season 5 there was drama with this group. But with different people of race and living…..would be drama/fights x 100000000.
If they were to add new races, quite honestly…it would just be Real World: Jersey Shore…that’s why they have the cast that they do…cause it would’ve just been another season of a show they already have…I’m sure they put a lot of thought into this…because the show is set up just like the Real World…minus one person…I don’t think the show will have enough of a following if they recast it, there’s to much “loyalty” to the current cast. But if they did recast it, maybe they could throw in the “token gay” person(s) as all the other reality shows, of this type, that MTV usually has.
i thought it would be a a good idea if they went all over the world but not recast cuz nobody would wacth it. its lik having the same mom all ur lif and then next thing u kno there a stranger as ur mom
Hell na.. I really like the cast they have now.. If they’d quit and a new cast would come, I’d stop looking at Jersey Shore..
