Captain America: The First Avenger star Chris Evans is featured on the cover of the new issue of GQ magazine. In his coverstory interview, he reveals that he initially did not want to play Captain America. In fact, he turned down the role a “bunch” of times. Eventually, he agreed and, well, next month we’ll see if it was the right decision. Click below to check out Chris‘s GQ coverphoto and read some excerpts from his GQ interview .

On getting over his initial reluctance to take on the role of Captain America: “I said no a bunch, and every time I said no, I woke up the next morning so happy and content. I kept saying no; they kept coming back. And eventually I was like, ‘You know what? This is your biggest fear—this is exactly what you have to do.’ ”
On his character in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: “The character’s supposed to be this horrible actor and a douchebag, and I get the job and so many people were like, ‘You’re perfect, you’re gonna crush it!’ ” he continued with feigned anger. “I was like, So I got this role as an asshole actor, and you guys think I nailed it? That I’m a natural and that nobody in town can do it better?”
On how seeing sunsets are the “happiest” times in his life: “The point is that when I see a sunset or a waterfall or something, for a split second it’s so great, because for a little bit I’m out of my brain, and it’s got nothing to do with me. I’m not trying to figure it out, you know what I mean? And I wonder if I can somehow find a way to maintain that mind stillness.”
This GQ interview is … interesting … because the interviewer, Edith Zimmerman, ended up having a romantic but drunken fraternization with Chris as she was interviewing him for this piece. It’s a weird read, to be honest. Click HERE to read about Edith‘s time with Chris … and try to remember … he’s supposed to be promoting Captain Amierca.

Are you kidding? That article is 500 times more entertaining and insightful than 99% of the publicist-controlled interviews in magazines.
I didn’t read the article, Chris Evans doesn’t interest me but the photoshopping is just OTT.
I wasn’t really interested in seeing the movie because comic book action movies aren’t really my thing…but he is coming across in a very refreshing way for me. He is even starting to look cuter! First it was his admission of thinning hair, now the comments about not wanting to be a “natural” at being a jerk, etc. Still won’t see the movie, but I will keep my eyes out for him in other things.
I can’t wait to see the movie and CHRIS topless showing that ripped hairy chest. I get “excited” thinking about it!!
That cover picture is CGI right? I am excited for Captain America, and from the previews, it looks great! This is a must see movie, along with Thor because they all lead up to one big movie… The Avengers.
Is that a hair piece because I thought he said he was going bald?
That GQ article was so entertaining and hilarious! I really enjoyed reading it.
Oh My, It was like she had no filter. Seriously that was the most UNprofessional interview ever.. lol. But still funny.
Oh, what a fantastic article. He really does seem so sweet. But he’s going to have to tone things down as he gets more famous – the press could eat him alive. Voyeur is a bit sleezy for Cap Am though!! :-)
Flirtatious reporting…and…action! I really wondered when the actual article would begin and the flirting end. But…could you honestly blame her? Would leaving Chris Evans’ place at 5am be a bad thing? My current flatmate had worked out in the same sports club as Chris and could not close his mouth because the man is that fine….maybe we are going to see a change in the writing styles of GQ even.
