Watch: Miley Cyrus Performs ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ By Nirvana
While Kurt Cobain Rolls Around in his Grave

Um … first, I feel I must apologize for what I’m about to do to you. You must believe me when I say that I do NOT mean to harm you in any way and I truly hope none of you will suffer from what I’m about to share with you. During a concert performance in Ecuador last weekend, Miley Cyrus decided to perform a cover of the Nirvana song Smells Like Teen Spirit. According to Miley, Teen Spirit is the song that inspired her to “follow her dreams” and therefore, she felt compelled to perform the song live for her fans. Brace yourselves, gird your loins … and check out the Miley Cyrus version of the grunge anthem Smells Like Teen Spirit below.

Dear Kurt Cobain, wherever you are in the afterlife … on behalf of the living, I deeply apologize for … this. May you continue to rest in eternal peace and try not to pay attention should Miley ever choose to perform your song again. As for you, dear readers, I gotta ask … what do YOU think of Miley‘s performance of Smells Like Teen Spirit?

i think only the chorus is really bad.. but could of been way worse.

Hm. It wasn’t necessarily a bad cover, I have heard worse..way worse. I’ve also heard better.

I don’t doubt that she may have been introduced to Nirvana in some form of another when she was young. Nirvana has always been a band that youths can connect too-and some kids are exposed to different types of music from family friends or family members.

However for some reason when watching this cover I didn’t feel like she held any respect or admiration for Nirvana-which is usually something someone has for bands/musicians they do covers for.

It was more like she just did it because she liked the song, or because she wanted to earn some “recognition” from others that may be outside her fan base. She might have also wanted to give herself more edge by performing this song.

So I guess I’ll just say “eh” the cover wasn’t bad, but it was lacking in certain aspects to me personally.

I’m not a Miley Cyrus fan but I hate it when people say Kurt “rolls around in his grave” because of this. I mean no one actually knows how he would react but everyone seems to be embarrassed she actually sang it. Give her a break at least she was true to herself, and who are you to judge who can do a cover of this song (which in my opinion is actually on the worst Nirvana’s songs) and who can’t!? I beat you if Britney sang it 80% of you would jizz your pants.
Anyways the only version of this song that I like is a cover made by Mozdzer, Danielsson and Fresco. And as for Miley – don’t like but I don’t hate her for doing it.

Anyone who knew and loved Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, and everything he represented back in the 90s knows how he would react. He would not give this girl a thumbs up….probably a different finger all together.

      • Dot says:

I grew up in the 90′s and was listening to Nirvana but I would never say I knew Kurt, actually none of us did so in my opinion making any statements on behalf of him is just stupid. Plus we never know what kind of person he would be if he still lived.

I actually liked it, I like her. The chorous was bad. I dont know if really was inspired by this song or just liked it though you know? Either I think its cool because I like her more rocker style anyway.

  5. krissy says:

The thing I find irritating about Miley in general, is that it doesn’t seem to me that she is a fan of music. Singing a song about “A Jay-Z song was on…” and then admitting that she didn’t even know ONE Jay-Z song!

I respect artists that are creatively curious and try to grow and learn from other great artists. This just seems like a cry for attention to me.

  6. anwar says:

She did a good rendition. Sound just like the original, but on stage. I see Miley is a dark singer.

  7. Ella says:

I couldn’t finish. Her voice makes me cringe, but from what I heard I can tell you I’ve heard better covers of this song and worse because EVERYBODY covers this song! I don’t care enough to think about why she did the song, I just can’t wait to read what crazy Courtney Love says about it.

  8. M3 M3 says:

I kept hoping Frances Bean would walk out on stage, grab the mic out of her hand and walk off with it. Painful sound from a silly little pop princess!

  9. Alex says:

I think it rocks (because it’s a rock song)

  10. Mad Ethel says:

She needs to stick to her bubble gum Pop.
