Beyoncé on a horse? Yes, please! This video looks like it’s going to be an over-the-top funfest. That being said … can we be done with the teasers now? I’m telling you, I am so over the video snippet teasers. Just release the damn video already. As for this clip, what do y’all think … does the video look good? Are these teasers getting you excited for the release of Run the World (Girls)?

maybe she hopes these teasers will boost the song? i dunno…but i’d bet my life this isnt the last damn teaser.
This song is her biggest flop single ever. It is out of the top 100 iTunes songs and radio is cold to this crappy song. It did not even reach the top 30 on Hot 100. Sad.
I think that if Britney is allowed to come out with like 20 teasers then Beyonce should be allowed to do the same. As for what I think so far, it looks like it could be good. I remember when I first heard “Single Ladies” I honestly thought it sounded like a hot mess, but then I saw the video, started to shake ma thangs (I say thangs because they are many things that were shaking so its plural lol) and i totally got hooked. Maybe this video will have the same effect on me.
“I honestly thought it sounded like a hot mess, but then I saw the video, started to shake ma thangs (I say thangs because they are many things that were shaking so its plural lol) and i totally got hooked”
lol! very cute!!
IMO, this is what is happening with her single:
People buy songs on iTunes that they have heard. If a song doesn’t get love from radio, then people don’t go to buy it on iTunes because they haven’t heard it.
Radio is REFUSING to play her song, not because of the quality, but because of summer radio concerts. Those concerts where they have a bunch of different pop artists all playing 15-20 minutes? Those are the radio version of blackmail. If you are not on tour and you decline an invite to play at those shows, radio will NOT play your songs in decent rotation. There aren’t that many companies that actually own radio stations, so if you piss off one in a major city, they are most likely the same company that owns the outlets in smaller cities (Clear Channel, etc.)
i kind of disagree with that. yes people buy the songs they hear of the raido but britney, rihanna, nicki, eminem ect wont be showing up for any of the summer raido concerts in Toronto but they get rotation. Beyonce has never done a summer concert here, and she was getting tons of plays until this single came out. so to say the raido is REFUSING to play the song, is a bit of stretch.
For example, Britney is co-hosting the KIIS FM concert in LA. You don’t have to be at every concert, as long as you assist the parent company in one of them.
Also, Canadian radio is very different from US. You don’t have the formating restrictions that we do, and I believe that you guys have fewer conglomerates running them. I could be wrong, it has been a while since I read up on Canada’s radio system.
@krissy, Britney isn’t co hosting, they’re throwing that out there for ratings.
She is rumoured to be introducing an act or something, but not co hosting.
And no – radio isn’t doing that. Its just a really terrible song. It’s not a radio song. Even Urban radio isnt warming up to it as much as they usually do for a Beyonce song. If you see on the Medibase site than its not even in the Top 20 for spins and is already dropping reeeeal fast with current just under 300 spins. Something so new and outside the Top 20 would usually be INCREASING with over 400-600 spins.
Just admit its a bad song and terrible choice for the first single. A flop if you could call it. For Beyonce’s standard its a flop. Not a fan of her, but she usually makes songs that radio LIKE and in this case she hasn’t. The video won’t save it that much, I don’t see it being Top 10. It could crack the Top 20 with promotion, but time will tell and things may change.
If it helps you sleep at night, Judas has been a flop for Gaga. Although it cracked the Top 10, it hasnt made the top 10 on Pop Radio which I believe is a first for a major Gaga release. It lasted a week in the Top 10 on iTunes, re-entered yesterday but fell back out. The video is not that great although she claims everything new she releases to be so. So Beyonce isn’t the only one at the moment. But Gaga will gobble her up with the album.
“Even Urban radio isnt warming up to it as much as they usually do for a Beyonce song.”
Look up Clear Channel Communications. Clear Channel owns multiple “urban” or “Rhythmic Top 40″ radio stations in most major markets, meaning you have no alternative but to hear one company’s take in many cities. You think you are listening to 2 or 3 different companies representing urban music, but it is just one company. The fact is that Beyonce is not on tour right now, and they probably wanted her to play at one of their concerts.
Clear Channel owns any radio station that has the call words:
Beat
Power
Party
Kiss (Or KIIS)
Z
Wild
Hot
Hit Music Now
Radio Now
Q
B
Variety
Max
(and many others)
So the same company that puts on the Z100 concert in New York and controls their playlist, is the same company that puts on Wango Tango for KIIS FM and controls their playlist. This isn’t about what makes me “sleep at night”…I could care less if my favorites are liked by everyone or no one. But the American public is far too ignorant about the politics in our radio set up. Format and corporations have drastically limited what we hear, and what we consider a “hit”. Katy Perry threw lavish parties for radio, and as a result her songs get tons of airplay. Pay-For-Play might be illegal, but they have completely worked around that. What you hear on the radio has NOTHING to do with listener demand, and everything to do with sneaky business dealings.
Well perhaps Beyonce should get back with her Dad, she seemed to buy her own career anyway. What she wanted Daddy would fetch (worse yet, bully people) for her.
I def agree business dealings defines who gets played, but Beyonce is thrashed way too much on radio. I would say that her success for singles is more due to radio than sales in terms of charting. I think it sucks that Urban artists get counted numerous times for Urban/Pop/Rhythmic radio spins.
Country artists & Rock artists are snubbed because of this, and its quite personally unfair to them. The charts should focus more on sales than radio. ANd yeah Urban and Pop will still dominate, its the more popular genre, but we would see a lot more charting by other genres.
You say they “probably wanted her to play at one of their concerts” so thats an accusation you make, not a point. So you can hold them accountable for that reason for why she is not getting spins. Mediabase track as far as I’m aware, most if not all Urban radio stations when I was referencing the slow warm up to Beyonce’s track and the sort of “flop” its experiencing compared to her other singles in the past.
Either way, the single is a flop. Radio wise yes and even sales wise, yes. Britney can sell 400K in her first week without the track cracking the Top 20 on Radio. Gaga can do a million.Taylor Swift can do it. Kesha can do it. Katy Perry can do it. All without having to wait weeks for radio to start airing the track. At the end of the day the song is bad, from my standards and radios aswell, so Beyonce just needs to deal with it., cause she could make a top 5 debut in her first week, she just chose the wrong track. I have no doubt she will choose a better second and third single and chart really well, it was just a poor decision. I will give credit to her that she usually doesn’t choose such bad songs as her singles.
And to top it off, like people say, Beyonce should just go away for a while. Perhaps radio feel that way, at least I do and will lap it up whilst I can.
The problem is pretty clear…its dance-able, B will probably throw down in the video and I’m sure a lot of people who haven’t heard the electric “Pon de Floor” at the club before will jump on it. That won’t change the fact that the song is a bit of a mess as far as structure, harmony and content go. I’m still looking forward to seeing what the video’s got in store.
a bad song is a bad song regardless of radio politics. Though in saying this, wasn’t Britney between slave for you and everytime allegedly snubbed from radio because she declined clearview sponsoring her tour? Some of her singles still charted reasonably well despite the lack of radio spins, thus proving that a good song will eventually sell, and it will chart well despite what radio is going on…
Yeah I’m a Britney fan by miles over Beyonce, but looking back at britneys chart performance for her singles, she really didn’t do exceptionally well.
Why?
Her label wanted album sales, which really is a smarter move and it worked. I can’t find the link, I really tried Googling for it, but there was some article about how Jive pushed for album sales over chart performance for her singles. Something about the formats her singles were released.
Whilst I still think Britney would have sold better than Xtina anyway, but Xtina has had a better chart performance on her singles over Britney, in her earlier career anyway nowadays.
However I would say her labels actions would’ve changed with the Britney era, they still released songs on older formats but yeah radio didnt really warm up that much to Slave 4 U – but strangely enough, Urban radio did. Its her only charting on an R&B/Hip Hop Billbaord chart actually – Urban snub her more than anyone really.
I think yeah, radio will snub someone if they dont get there own way, but it ultimately comes down to whether a song is radio friendly, popular, “current” in terms of sound and whether the artist is “relevant”. If it isn’t charting very well or selling, then chances are people dont wanna hear it so radio wont air it as much and ultimately decrease the amount of spins.
It looks it was directed by Kanye West.. Or at least inspired by Kanye West.
Everybody go to Youtube. Theres a remix of this single produced by this guy name Fyuchur. Its Hot!! Even her fans love it.
