Back in November of 2009, we learned that plans were in the works for a remake of the brilliant 1994 film The Crow. In February of last year, we heard that The Crow redux would begin filming last Summer … but nothing happened. In October of last year, we heard a new rumor that Marky Mark Wahlberg might be cast as the lead in The Crow but, again … nothing more came from that talk. Today we learn, officially, that a new director has been chosen to make The Crow. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is scheduled to begin filming the movie this year for a 2012 release. Does this mean that The Crow is really gonna fly again?

Relativity Media has chosen Juan Carlos Fresnadillo to serve behind the lens for “The Crow” reboot. In a press release, Tucker Tooley, executive producer of the film, has made it official that the “28 Weeks Later…” director is chosen to helm the project. “Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is an incredibly talented and imaginative filmmaker,” Tooley said. “We are thrilled to have him at the helm and are excited to work with both Pressman and Apaches on what we all believe will be a compelling and innovative reimagining of ‘The Crow’.” Although the helmer for the upcoming film has been chosen, the characters are yet to be cast. Tooley said, “Fresnadillo will collaboratively develop the script once a writer is attached to adapt the screenplay. Casting has not yet been announced.” The film tells a story about a man who is brutally murdered, but comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancee’s murder. Written by Nick Cave and Stephen Norrington, the action thriller movie is scheduled to be released in 2012.
I can’t say that I am at all excited that this remake of The Crow is really gonna happen because I find it hard to believe that anyone will be able to do a better job than the late Brandon Lee, who died while making the original 1994 film. That said, I did like Fresnadillo‘s work on 28 Weeks Later so … meh, we’ll see. I was hoping that all the delays and false rumors would end up in a decision to just leave things along and NOT remake the film. But it sounds like it’s really gonna happen so … now we await casting news. Who would YOU ideally like to see cast in the lead role as The Crow?

I wouldn’t want to see ANYBODY cast in the role! I love your blog by the way! If they REALLY allow this movie to be remade, it will be a disaster AND a complete slap in the face to Brandon Lee. Being Eric was THE BEST role that Brandon Lee ever had and he will always be remembered for this role! I mean, come on, HE DIED FOR THAT ROLE!! This pisses me off…they already ruined the Crow’s legacy with the endless sequels, leave well enough alone! And, anyone that DID SEE 28 Weeks Later will not hesitate to say that movie SUCKED and anything else this director touches most likely will as well. Seriously, somebody needs to stop this from happening.
The Crow was Brandon Lee/Brandon Lee was The Crow. These remakes are getting out of hand.
Im still in shock they wanna remake The Crow, I find this very insulting! Ive always been a huge Brandon Lee fan & he is The One & Only The Crow Eric Draven, dont mess with his legacy just to make a buck! Though he only made 6 films like his father, he had a tremendous acting ability & should receive a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! Everytime I watch The Crow I feel like im gonna cry, we lost him too young & its just so unfair……
I agree … very sad that they would do another one, esp. after they botched all the sequels so badly and a reboot to boot for shame. There will never be another Brandon Lee just as his father was irreplaceable. That being said the only actor who looks remotely the part is Taylor Skitch and we know he has a thing for comicbook/supernatural movies already.
no one will be better thabn Brandon, the role was meant for him, bradley altough a good actor is not in the same league.
I grew up to this movie and loved it,The crow is one of my heroes! This movie is already amazing so why would they want to remake it? Movie industries today don’t want to make a great movie and don’t care if they ruin one in the process they just want to throw something together just to make a few bucks and call it a movie.I just wish they would leave amazing movies like this alone
