Last month we learned officially that MTV is bringing back the hit 90′s animated series Beavis & Butt-Head and we also learned that the network is reviving another franchise. Teen Wolf is being resurrected on MTV in a dark new series that is much different from the original 1985 film it is based on. Taking a cute from the popularity of werewolves brought on by The Twilight Saga film franchise, MTV is hoping to capitalize on the craze. Check out the official trailer for the new Teen Wolf below.
Clearly, MTV thinks a werewolf drama series (which looks a lot like The Vampire Diaries, actually) is the way to go with the Teen Wolf name. IMHO, because this new version bares no resemblance whatsoever to the original comedic film, I don’t get why they are using the same name. Why not call it something else entirely? To be honest, I don’t really watch MTV programming at all so I don’t know that there is anything in this new version of Teen Wolf that looks interesting to me. If it had been a comedy, like the original film, I might’ve been more intrigued. What do y’all think? Does MTV‘s new Teen Wolf look like a show that YOU would like to watch?

This looks so dumb but then again I do not watch MTV shows anymore either except for Teen Mom every so often. I have progressed to much deeper and more meaningful shows on VH1! The original Teen Wolf is a classic and I too have no clue why they would use that name. People just can’t come up with original ideas anymore!!

I felt the same way when I heard they were going to make Buffy the Vampire Slayer in to a TV show. ;)
@Val 2.0 — HMMM. You make a good point.
But to be fair, with Buffy the TV show was more the TRUE Buffy than the movie ever was, at least for Joss. He has gone on recorded on saying that his script was butchered and the movie wasn’t what he wanted at all.
Just another reason we should all be thrilled they’re remaking Buffy based on the movie! Because why not start start from crap…I mean scrap…

As far as supernatural teen dramas go, this one seems far less annoying than Vampire Diaries. It has an attractive, semi-capable cast. It has werewolves, which thankfully hasn’t been over used to the point of becoming boring (thanx a lot Smeyr, I used to love vampires). Personally its a far better successor to the Buffy mantle than Diaries is.
