Back in January we got to check out a very cool video of Björk performing a karaoke cover of the Joy Division song Love Will Tear Us Apart at an event orchestrated to raise funds to support Iceland’s natural resources but today we learn that Björk has announced the release of a new album which she has titled Biophilia. In addition, a 3-week residency of concerts has also been announced where the songs from Biophilia will be introduced to the world. There is new Björk music on the way, y’all!!

This summer, Björk introduces Biophilia, an extraordinary immersive project and her most ambitious work to date. The multi-media endeavour encompasses her music, installations and live shows, and celebrating the use of modern technology by utilising the internet. The project aims to explore ideas like how sound works, the infinite expanse of the universe, from planetary systems to atomic structures. The world premiere of Björk’s Biophilia live show will be held at Manchester International Festival for a three-week residency – across six intimate shows in the Campfield Market Hall for audiences of 1800, as her first UK dates in over three years. For these six special shows, Björk will be performing new tracks from the forthcoming Biophilia studio album as well as with a small group of unique musical collaborators. The show will feature a range of specially conceived and crafted instruments, among them a bespoke digitally-controlled pipe organ; a 30 foot pendulum that harnesses the earth’s gravitational pull to create musical patterns – creating a unique bridge between the ancient and the modern; a bespoke gamelan-celeste hybrid; and a one-off extraordinary pin barrel harp. In a special collaboration with MIF, the Biophilia live show will travel to major cities around the world following the Manchester premiere. MIF will also be working with young people in Manchester to explore the musicological, scientific and technological ideas behind the project. In a series of educational workshops schoolchildren will be given the unique opportunity to experience the world of Biophilia first hand, and to immerse themselves in the endlessly rich and inspiring place where cutting edge technology, music and nature meet.
Squuuuuueeeeeeeee!! This is such great news!! Björk is one of my all time fave musicians and any new music from her is extremely great news. I understand that much like Gorillaz did with the free album The Fall they released around Xmas, Björk used the Apple iPad to compose some of the music on Biophilia. I really wish I could attend of the Summer residency shows reported above but I deffo plan to see Björk live in concert if/when she brings her show to the US. We don’t know exactly when Biophilia will be released but I hope Björk doesn’t make us wait too long. This is very exciting news. 2011 is really turning out to be an absolutely amazing year for new music :D

Woooooot!! I LOVE Bjork! I’m not ashamed to admit I cried like a crazed Bieber fan when I saw her live..She’s so amazing!!
Bjork has talked before about looking forward to aging as an artist because later in life is when you produce your best work. She’s creative in the truest meaning of the word and surrounds herself with only the best. I can’t wait!
I have seen Bjork live many times. Her vocals are more amazing live than recorded. She is a true artist and one of the music industries most inspiring visonary leaders. This new music sounds like its going to be unique…im sure the shows that incorporate all that the article says is gonna be ILL! Psyched!!!
bjork is awesome.
but holy smokes this website messes up your eyes.
I Love Bjork. I have been a huge fan my whole life, since The Sugarcubes. My only complaint is that this latest music and project seems so esoteric and unaccessible. You only get the full experience if you use apple and have a ipad. I don’t think Bjork takes her fans into account at all. She is a pioneer and constantly innovates her sound and music, it just seems that the past few years she has gotten so caught-up in her obsession with “the newest, most creative form of music” she leaves so many in the dust. Here is my new album, for those of you who can afford to travel and are apple users. The rest of you that have supported me for the past 12 years, you don’t matter
