Last August we first heard the rumor that Academy Award-winning French actress Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose, Inception) would be joining the cast of the new Christopher Nolan-directed Batman film. Today we learn that, yes, Cotillard has joined the cast of Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. Last Summer, it was rumored that Marion might play either Talia al Ghul or Selina Kyle/Catwoman but we learned last month that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle … so … does that mean Marion will play Talia?
Gotham City is about to get a French accent. Already set to star Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Christian Bale returning as the Caped Crusader, the latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, is also welcoming a formidable femme fatale: 2008 Oscar winner Marion Cotillard. While it still remains to be seen whether the French star, 35, will play a romantic interest or a rival superhero to Hathaway’s character of Selina Kyle – also known as Catwoman – the addition of Cotillard comes as a surprise, reports Monday’s Le Parisien newspaper. Sources also tell PEOPLE that the La Vie en Rose Oscar winner, who is expecting a baby in April with her French actor-director beau Guillaume Canet, signed onto the Batman project Saturday in Paris. The Batman movie will also reunite Cotillard with her Inception director Christopher Nolan and costars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy. Others in the cast include Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman. According to sources, Cotillard will start shooting at London’s Elstree Studios in mid-June, then move on to locations in Pittsburgh and Los Angeles this summer. Filming is expected to wrap in New York in November, with the picture’s release set for July 2012.
YES!!! This is FANTASTIC NEWS! I fell IN LOVE with Marion Cotillard in the film La Vie en Rose and altho I felt her talents were wasted in Inception, I have NO DOUBT that she will be amazing in The Dark Knight Rises. I was really hoping that Marion would be cast as Selina Kyle/Catwoman but I will take what I can get. This is amazing news … Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and now Marion Cotillard?! Eff yes!! Soooo damn excited, this is such great news … wouldn’t you agree?

she would have made a great catwoman. but i like her, so i hope they give her something good.
SHE IS AMAZING and sexy as all hell. I can’t wait for this movie to come out! Is it me or does Anne just not really fit?? I am sure she will be fine but it will be interesting to see her in the film.

I wish Marion was Catwoman instead of Anne. I love Tom Hardy, Marion, Joseph Gordon Levitt….I just hope the plot doesn’t get too crowded. This doesn’t need to be like Oceans 12 or something! ;)

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking! I am not too sure of so many stars in one film, but Chris Nolan can be trusted with it.

Not a fan of Anne Hathaway. And I know that he didn’t have a huge part in Inception, but it’s noteworthy to list Michael Caine in both Inception and the Batman films.
I would also rather see Marion as catwoman instead of Anne. I hope since Anne is a good actress she will be able to prove us wrong.

I’m kinda tired of Christopher Nolan casting the SAME actors in every film he does. I mean the actors are brilliant, but having the same actors in every one of his films is getting old. I’d like to see what he can do with some different talent.

I know this is Nolan, he has done the previous two justice but limited it to only a few or couple of characters.
This already has more than the previous two – I can’t help but think of Spiderman 3.
Raimi is just as talented as Nolan and the first 2 Spiderman films are probably the best comic book films going around EVER – I just hope the screenplay is darn good cause like Spiderman 3, they good all dazzled up with the characters and fight and the emo thing to care about anything else.
I didn’t know this movie was going to be filming in pittsburgh. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it when filming begins. Very exciting!
I *love* this news! Been wanting her in the franchise since I saw her in Public Enemies.
That being said, Nolan doesn’t have a very good track record with his films’ female characters. I have a feeling Marion’s talents will be wasted on a poorly written/directed Talia or Holiday Killer :(
I definitely think she is going to be the new love interest since Rachel died in the last film. She could also be Talia since Batman and Talia have a romance in the comics…
